West Bromwich Albion 1-2 Brighton & Hove Albion: Neal Maupay hits extra-time winner

Brighton came from behind to beat 10-man West Brom in extra time and reach the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Callum Robinson fired the Baggies ahead after Karlan Grant's fine run and pass.

The turning point came when defender Cedric Kipre was dismissed for two yellow card fouls in as many minutes.

Poland's Jakub Moder equalised to force extra time, before Neal Maupay beat former Brighton keeper David Button with a first-time shot from 12 yards to send the Premier League side through.

West Brom, fourth in the Championship table, have now had three red cards in two games.

Alex Mowatt and Sam Johnstone were both dismissed in the 1-1 draw with Cardiff on 2 January.

The draw for the fourth round takes place on Sunday after West Ham United's tie with Leeds United, which kicks off at 14:00 GMT.

Brighton work hard for win

Brighton were made to work hard for their win which maintains the momentum after an impressive festive programme which earned them seven points from three games.

At one stage at The Hawthorns they were on course to make an early exit before Kipre was given his marching orders after bookings in the 67th and 69th minutes.

The Baggies led 1-0 but 12 minutes after going down to 10 men substitute Moder levelled five minutes after coming on, while it required a fine save by Button to prevent Alexis Mac Allister from winning it in normal time.

With West Brom tiring, Maupay struck from inside the box after Moder's pass.

Victory, however, came at a cost as Enock Mwepu and Odel Offiah, who was making his first senior start, were forced off with injuries.

Last year Brighton slumped out in the fifth round after fielding a weakened side at Leicester, who went on to lift the trophy.

Graham Potter, who made seven changes from the side that won at Everton last weekend, will be hopeful of going further this season, particularly with his side free of relegation trouble and in the top half of the Premier League table.

'It would be nice to have an FA Cup run'

West Brom boss Valerien Ismael on Cedric Kipre's red card: "It's not about the referee, it's about us.

"Until the red card we were completely in control. The red card was the game-changer. I told the players in the changing room that I'm satisfied with the performance but not satisfied with the red card.

"We now have three players suspended for the next game. We have to stop this if we want to play with consistency."

Brighton boss Graham Potter: "If you get two yellow cards it's a sending off. They are the rules.

"They scored from their only attack, I think. We deserved to win. West Brom were a Premier League side last season and have good players, they are well organised and hard to play against.

"Their keeper has pulled off some saves but our quality has shone through and we're delighted to go through.

"Of course it would be nice to have a cup run."
