Hundreds of cyclists turned out Monday for the 45th annual Assaults on Mount Mitchell and Marion. High difficulty Holly Springs 'Sinkhole' mountain biking, hiking trail reopens to public
BURKE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — The Holly Springs Trail, in Pisgah National Forest’s Grandfather Ranger District, reopened Saturday, May 14 to hikers and mountain bikers. Known locally as the "Sinkhole" trail, it's located in the Upper Creek area of Burke County. The trail (TR #273) has been closed since February 2022 due to the closure of an abandoned mine shaft along the trail as well as trail maintenance.

Body of missing SC woman found in Western North Carolina, authorities say
RUTHERFORD COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — Investigators have found the body of a previously reported missing woman from South Carolina. The Greenville County Sheriff's Office reports the body of Edna Suttles, 80, was located in a wooded area off of Harris Holly Springs Road in Rutherfordton, North Carolina around 10 a.m. Monday, May 16.
