On Wednesday night, Selena Gomez stepped out for dinner at Carbone in NYC wearing a silky button-up white shirt with a panel across the front. She paired the interesting take on a classic wardrobe staple with a pair of light jeans by Re/Done and carried a wool camel coat over her arm in case of chilly weather. Her hair was slicked back, and she was wearing a pair of heeled leather boots, accessorizing with gold earrings.

Gomez recently launched her cosmetics line Rare Beauty, and discussed the new business venture in an interview with InStyle, explaining how she has a long history with makeup because of her early celebrity.

“At the age of 7 I was already working and in the hair and makeup chair. Even then I noticed certain trends and how I didn't match them. That made me question my own beauty,” she said. “I wanted quality products that I feel confident and comfortable wearing. But more importantly, I wanted to change the narrative and knock down dated beauty norms.”

But she also went through times when her relationship with cosmetics wasn't as fulfilling.

“There was a whole period in my life when I thought I needed makeup and never wanted to be seen without it,” she said. “The older I got, the more I evolved and realized that I needed to take control of what I was feeling.”

The 29-year-old is approaching her 30th birthday and recently told People that she is fully embracing aging.

“I love growing up. When I was younger, I was scared of it, and I thought by now my life would look so different,” she said. “Now I'm like, ‘Wow, this is not what I ever expected, and I couldn't be more thrilled.’ I've stopped caring about what people have to say, and that's been wonderful.”
