When does The Book of Boba Fett take place?

After what feels like an eternity of waiting, live action Star Wars is back on out screens. This time The Mandalorian is taking a backseat for the long-anticipated series, featuring the most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy, Boba Fett.

Fans have been dreaming for a Fett centred story for decades and now it’s finally here. Originally there were confirmed reports of a live action film staring Fett and to be directed by Josh Trank (Chronicle, Fantastic Four). This didn’t get very far with Trank being dismissed less than a year later. Just how similar the lost movie and the show we see today are is something we may never know.

If you’re a Star Wars fan, odds are you’re just a little bit obsessed with chronology and timelines. So, when exactly, in the long history of the galaxy, does The Book of Boba Fett take place?

In order to answer this, we’ll need to do a big of digging and then just a tiny bit of maths. We know for sure that the Fett show takes places around or some time after the end of season 2 of its parent show The Mandalorian. How long after exactly is not known for sure. We do know however when the first live action Star Wars series takes place.

The description for The Mandalorian on the official Star Wars website describes the show as taking place five years after the Battle of Endor. This is of course the important conflict as seen in Return of the Jedi that saw the Rebel Alliance triumph over the Empire… for the most part.

Episode VI itself takes place four years after the original Star Wars film. So, if our math checks out, this means that The Book of Boba Fett takes place approximately nine years after the events of A New Hope, or 9 ABY (After the Battle of Yavin).
