- Updated statistics from the State of Texas Department of Health and Human Services show a surge in COVID-19 cases over the past two weeks. In the KETR listening area, the highest rates of new cases were recorded in Delta County (about 14 new cases per 1,000 residents), Hunt County (about 9 per 1,000), and Lamar County (close to 8.5 cases per 1,000). Elsewhere around the region, Hopkins and Rains counties have reported about 6 per 1,000. Fannin County has reported about 5 new cases per 1,000 people over the past two weeks.
- State officials also say the availability of the only antibody treatment known to be effective against the new variant is low. Hunt Regional Medical Center has said that supplies of this antibody have been ordered, but not yet received. No antibody treatment is being offered currently at Hunt Regional.
- At Texas A&M University-Commerce, free on-campus COVID testing for students, faculty and staff has been extended through next week. Testing will be available at the Alumni Center Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.
