Irina Shayk seems to understand that there's nothing like an elevated '00s-inspired monochrome look—especially when it's made out of leather.

The Sports Illustrated supermodel dressed in head-to-toe black yesterday while out for a stroll in New York City. She wore a longline leather coat over a matching black turtleneck, paired with Wayfair-style sunglasses and Burberry "Broadbrook" loafers made of high-shine leather. The black monochrome ensemble made her look like she belonged in The Matrix—though also reflects an ongoing trend worn by the likes of Kim Kardashian.

Shayk's outing also happened to fall on her 36th birthday. For part of the stroll, she walked hand-in-hand with 4-year-old daughter Lea De Seine Shayk Cooper, whom she shares with ex Bradley Cooper. Her daughter wore a small Burberry coat while carrying two balloons.

Black longline leather is a trend among celebrities—particularly other partners of Kanye West. (Shayk dated the rapper casually from June to August.) Shayk's look resembles Kim Kardashian's well-known sleek black fashion aesthetic. And Julia Fox, West's current rumored girlfriend, was spotted in a similar black monochrome ensemble following her second date with the rapper. "I like a lot of leather, black leather," Fox told InStyle. "I love leather trench coats."

Shayk herself was first spotted out with West in early June while celebrating his 44th birthday at Villa La Coste in France. The two dated casually for two months until officially calling it quits in August. "It was never a serious thing that took off," a People source said. "Kanye has been busy working and spending time with his kids. This is his focus," a second insider added.

The Russian model is currently single but maintains a healthy co-parenting relationship with Cooper, living blocks away from the actor in New York City. “They have a very friendly relationship," a source told E! News. “It's not tense at all. It's always extremely cordial.”
