Deslin Alexandre Returns to Pitt for Super-Senior Season

Pitt’s defensive line was a strength in 2021, and with a very talented, very highly-touted group of youngsters itching for playing time, the future of the position is in very good hands. And the present isn’t too bad either.

Defensive captain Deslin Alexandre announced his decision to return to Pitt for one more season on Twitter Friday afternoon, paving the way for Pitt’s dominant 2022 defensive line to run it back once more.

“I would like to thank God for the opportunities given to me and the countless blessings I have received in my life. Thank you also to my family, coaches, teammates and fans who have supported, encouraged and helped me grow as a player and person. This past year has given me the chance to lead and grow both on and off the field, after many thoughts and prayers, I’ve decided to use my last year of eligibility and continue my athletic and academic career in Pittsburgh. I’m excited to get back to work. Hail to Pitt!”

Alexandre started Pitt’s final 11 games this season, excluding the Peach Bowl which he missed due to injury, at defensive end alongside Habakkuk Baldonado. Alexandre racked up 41 tackles (16 solo), five tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, defended a pass and recorded an interception this season.

Defensive line coach Charlie Partridge will have an embarrassment of riches to work with in 2022, with Baldonado, Alexandre, Calijah Kancey and John Morgan returning and players like Dayon Hayes, Bam Brima, Nahki Johnson and Naquan Brown waiting in the wings.

With Alexandre returning for one last season at Pitt, he’ll provide additional veteran leadership and production along the edge. The team remains at 89 scholarships for 2022, four over the limit.

Long time until WVU at Heinz, they might want to get back up to 85 first themselves. Not sure what the fascination is with the TP is, if you sort 247 Sports 21’ by Uncommitted you get a lot of leftovers. So either Players gave up Scholarships and did not get NEW ones or the site is not accurate. COVID rules are back down to Regular limits, beware giving up your Scholarship. Back to S&C making you want to Quit instead Old School style (Junction Boys).

This is getting ridiculous, these guys are graduating at 24 or 25 and kids like Brima, and Hayes have to wait another year. This is why so many kids are in the portal.
