It was a bit of a surprise when Celtic handed Leigh Griffiths a one-year contract extension in the summer. But at the same time, it made sense too, considering that Odsonne Edouard was expected to depart the club. And many would have hoped that he could find his best form once again, because at the top of his game, there is not doubt about his abilities.

He showed glimpses of that in the second half of the 2019/20 season and still at just 31 years of age, there is expected to be quite a bit of football left in the tank for Griffiths.

Ultimately though, the club would send him out on loan to Dundee FC and there he has struggled as well. As a result, rumours have emerged regarding a potential return to Celtic in January.

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Celtic don’t want Griffiths back at Parkhead this month. On the other hand, Dundee FC are believed to be exploring how to activate the break clause in the season-long loan deal he signed in the summer.

Griffiths could potentially return to Celtic in January

At the moment, it is safe to say that Griffiths’ future is pretty much up in the air as it looks like neither Celtic nor Dundee FC want him at their club.

This is a sad situation for a player who once was one of the, if not the very best striker in all of Scotland. It is safe to say that things have taken a downturn since then for Griffiths, as he has struggled for some time now except for brief spells.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 2 goals in 14 appearances for Dundee FC this season.

Talks appear to be ongoing with Celtic at the moment regarding the way forward from here. Until a decision is made, Griffiths will continue at Dundee FC.
