Spanish fashion house Loewe and Japanese animation agency Studio Ghibli are back again with their latest collaboration. Loewe's latest limited-edition capsule collection is inspired by Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away which Loewe's Creative Director Jonathan Anderson described as, “an ode to loyalty, friendship, and stubbornness in the face of adversity. It is magical.”

With a number of designs, the collection features characters from the 2001 film including Chihiro Ogino, No-Face, Boh, and more. They grace the fabrics of some of Loewe’s wallets, hoodies, and shirts. You can even find them on some of the brand's signature pieces like the Puzzle bag and Heel pouch.  Starting January 7, these items will be available online and in stores.

In this cultural exchange, Loewe adopted a stitching method from Japanese practices as well. Loewe’s Creative Director Jonathan Anderson explained, “We also introduced pieces inspired by the classic Japanese technique known as ‘boro’ which consists of mended and indigo-dyed scraps patchworked together, creating intarsia of Kasuri textiles and Anagram jacquard canvas on both ready-to-wear and bags.”

The campaign for this picturesque collaboration features Dua Saleh of Netflix’s Sex Education, Kit Butler, Hyunji Shin, and Mica Arganaraz photographed by Juergen Teller.

Loewe and Studio Ghibli launched their first project in January 2021 with a line inspired by My Neighbor Totoro. The collection featured Totoro and the susuwatari, who were also in Spirited Away and this new capsule.

In addition to the fashion collaboration, Loewe Foundation is also a supporter of the Ghibli Museum which showcases the work of Studio Ghibli in Mitaka, Japan. On November 8, 2021, Loewe Foundation announced their pledge to sponsor the Tokuma Memorial Cultural Foundation for Animation for three years.
