Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Fiz Stape's world will come crashing down next week when her young daughter Hope goes missing.

In Corrie scenes airing Friday, January 14 at 7.30pm on ITV, it all kicks off with Chesney Brown and Gemma Winter reporting their son Joseph's disappearance to the police – the former takes to the streets in search of him.

When Hope asks what's the matter outside, Fiz reveals that Joseph is nowhere to be seen.

Later on, Fiz orders Hope to tidy her bedroom as somebody is coming to value the property, but she becomes distracted by the scene outside as Chesney and Gemma make a public appeal to return Joseph safely home.

Unbeknownst to his worried-sick parents, Joseph wanders the Weatherfield cobbles clutching a rolled up tent.

Things take an even darker turn though, as Evelyn Plummer discovers that Hope has slipped out of the house; Fiz phones Tyrone Dobbs but he's no idea where the youngster could be.

Will Hope reappear soon, or could a new nightmare have just begun?

The soap's boss Iain MacLeod recently spoke of Joseph's twist, which is catalysed by his dad reporting bullies to the school teacher.

He told Digital Spy and other press: "The story causes Joseph to run away, which provokes widespread panic and spins off into another story for neighbouring households. But ultimately, it's the beginning of Chesney struggling to deal with his son."

MacLeod also stressed that Joseph won't change into a "classic tearaway teen" though – "it's a story that's got much more vulnerability and sensitivity to it, so he's not the new David Platt but it's a really heartbreaking story about a kid having an incredibly hard time".

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7.30pm on ITV.
