Coronation Street's Faye Windass and Emma Brooker are set to face a difficult dilemma in the coming weeks, as the truth about their involvement in Ted's death is at risk of coming to light.

Over the New Year, Faye accidentally knocked over the elderly Ted while driving Emma home from a party. Ted reassured the girls he was okay, but when they went to check on him later, they found that poor Ted had passed away.

In a panic, Emma took Ted's crutch from his flat in a bid to hide any connection to his death – but the crutch soon makes its way into Craig Tinker's hands when he returns to Weatherfield with a sprained ankle.

Craig, who's also involved with the police investigation into Ted's death, appears to take notice of the engraved initials on Ted's crutch, but will he make the connection?

Speaking about the "hard work" in store for Faye and Emma, Ellie Leach – who plays Faye – told Digital Spy and other media that the crutch is "definitely" a sign of things unravelling for the pair.

"I think now the crutch is in the situation it's going to be hard work. The girls know whose crutch it is and why it's there, but Craig doesn't and he's so inquisitive about everything.

"He'll be asking questions about where it's from, and how it got to be in the flat and stuff like that," Ellie explained.

Opening up about her character's reaction to Craig's inadvertent involvement, Ellie admitted that Faye's conscience is just half of the problem.

"I think she's confident in herself when she first makes the decision. She's like, 'This is what we need to do to keep ourselves out of trouble,'" the Corrie star admitted.

"But I think she does worry about Emma because she's a bit of a blabbermouth, Emma. She'll say things without thinking. I think Faye's more worried about things coming out through Emma than she is about herself.

Hinting that things will soon come to a head, she continued: "[Faye] also probably thinks, 'How long can I actually keep this a secret?' Because there's obviously pressure building up on her as well."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7.30pm on ITV.
