Marina Viotti Takes Over Staatsoper Berlin’s ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’

The Staatsoper Unter den Linden has announced that mezzo-soprano Marina Viotti will perform the role of Cherubino for the final season performances of Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” on April 9 & 16, 2022.

Viotti joins a cast that includes Gyula Orendt in the role of Count Almaviva, Elsa Dreisig as Countess Almaviva, Regula Mühlemann as Susanna, Waltraud Meier as Marcellina, and Riccardo Fassi in the title role. The cast also includes Stephan Rügamer, Siegfried Jerusalem, Peter Rose, David Oštrek, and Liubov Medvedeva. Daniel Barenboim conducts a production by Vincent Huguet, with set design by Aurélie Maestre.

Marina Viotti is a well-known mezzo-soprano who has appeared on the world’s greatest operatic stages, including the Teatro alla Scala di Milano, Bayerische Staatsoper, Semperoper Dresden, Opéra national du Rhin, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Teatro Arriaga de Bilbao, Lausanne Opera, the Lucerne Theatre, Grand Théâtre de Genève, and the Bolshoi Theater, among many others.

She is lauréate of several Foundations (Mosetti, Migros, Leenards, Weltner) and was a finalist in Operalia Competition, won the first price of the Kattenburg Competition in 2017, the third prize at the Concours de Genève in 2016, and the International Belcanto Price at the Rossini Festival of Wildbad in 2015.
