The Battlefield 2042 Rush mode has been taken out of rotation, resulting in a wave of complaints from players who enjoyed the game mode despite the continuing issues with EA Dice's first-person shooter.

Battlefield 2042 has had a rough time ever since it launched late last year. While EA Dice has made serious efforts to address the game's many problems -- most recently with Update 3 in early December 2021 and the limited-time launch of 64-player game modes -- it still has more than its fair share of problems with technical issues and a declining playerbase.

This was best emphasized by the unusual move of hosting a free weekend and a 34% discount less than a month after launch. One would think that EA Dice would do whatever it could to attract players, but the devs have just made another unpopular move: the Battlefield 2042 Rush mode has been pulled from rotation.

Removal of Battlefield 2042 Rush Mode Criticized by Community

As Eurogamer reports (via Reddit), the Battlefield 2042 Rush Mode has been removed from rotation. It was apparently quite popular and fans are none too happy about one of the few positives of the troubled shooter.

"Oh good grief. [What's] wrong with these people?" read one critical comment on Reddit. "Rush was providing the most enjoyable moments I've had in 2042...so they remove it. Is actually enjoying 2042 considered a legacy feature now?"

The Battlefield 2042 Rush mode challenges the attacking team to activate and protect explosive charges at multiple objectives. When the objectives are destroyed, a new set of objectives is unlocked deeper in the map. It's somewhat similar to the Breakthrough game mode, albeit with a slightly greater challenge on the objectives.

So, why was Rush mode removed? Well, Battlefield 2042 is a live service game and that means that game modes will rotate in and out. It was simply Rush's time to go. However, it seems that the community sentiment around the game mode was fairly positive based on the outcry over its removal; perhaps EA Dice should have considered extending its lifespan for a little while longer to keep players happy.

Battlefield 2042 still has its fair share of problems, but EA Dice has repeatedly emphasized its commitment to improve the game and make it into a Battlefield game worthy of the franchise. You can buy Battlefield 2042 for PC and consoles starting at $59.99 or your regional equivalent.
