The Untold Truth Of Nothing Bundt Cakes

If you aren't a big baker (or lover of delicious baked goods), you may be wondering what on earth a Bundt cake even is. Turns out that the funny looking cake pan hanging in your mom's kitchen with the hole in the center (loved and worn, tarnished from use) is, in fact, a Bundt cake pan. Greatist explains that the peculiar shape of the pan serves for both taste and structure. The hole in the center creates more surface area for a buttery edge with a deliciously crispy crust. The sturdy cake is able to stand up to hearty frostings and decorations. While serving many wonderful purposes, the unique shape of the Bundt pan can cause some pesky problems, too, if a baker isn't careful. Bundts run a risk of drying out as they are baked for an unusually long time and have more surface area exposed to direct heat while baking.

If you're hankering for a slice, but you don't want deal with the stress of making a whole cake from scratch, Nothing Bundt Cakes has you covered. As its name suggests, the ever-growing, much beloved chain focus on incredibly moist and delectable cakes of the Bundt variety. It's a business born from a shared love of baking

Established in 1997 by Dena Tripp and Debbie Shwetz, Nothing Bundt Cakes is the result of two friends' shared passion for delicious desserts (via Nothing Bundt Cakes). Baking up tempting treats for their friends and family was a specialty of both women. When the two combined forces, however, those little hobbies started to morph into a burgeoning business.

Told by many that their cakes were unlike anything they had ever tasted, how could the two friends do anything but go into business together? Realizing that, at the time, there was a giant need in the baking world for delicious cake, readily available, that didn't compromise on quality, the pair launched Nothing Bundt Cakes with a shop in Las Vegas. Per their website, even though Nothing Bundt Cakes is now a nationwide success with over 410 bakeries nationwide, it still maintains the warmth and nostalgia of it's home kitchen roots.

According to Food Business News, in 2021, Atlanta-based private equity firm Roark Capital made a pretty sweet deal by acquiring Nothing Bundt Cakes from Levine Leichtman Capital Partners in Los Angeles.

Franchise Times reports that while the terms of the deal were not initially disclosed, it is believed that Roark outbid other investors by quite a generous amount. Roark seemed very eager to add Nothing Bundt Cakes to their investment list, settling it in with similar culinary acquisitions such as the Dunkin' Brands, which they acquired in October 2020 for $11.3 billion. It seems Roark has every confidence in the success and potential of the company with Roark's managing director Clay Harmon saying, "Nothing Bundt Cakes is a special brand with delicious products that are beloved by guests."

Employees get free cake

As one can imagine, working for Nothing Bundt Cakes seems to come with lots of tasty benefits. When asked what it is like to be an employee at the bakery, one Indeed user responds, "It's such a great place to work. Every time I tell someone I work at NBC they go on about how much they love it and how much fun it must be for me to work in an environment like that." Another reports that employees are welcome to take home damaged and rejected cakes, free of charge.

That seems like an amazing perk but it begs the question: How do they stop themselves from "accidentally" bumping a warm white chocolate raspberry into a big heavy mixer, or "unintentionally" having a slip of the wrist with the piping bag, resulting in an imperfect flower petal design? The temptation would just be too great, if you ask us!
