Deutsche Oper Berlin Cancels Opening Night of ‘Der Zwerg’ Due To COVID-19

The Deutsche Oper Berlin has announced that it will be forced to cancel the opening night of Alexander von Zemlinsky’s “Der Zwerg” on Jan. 15, 2022 due to COVID-19 case in the vocal ensemble.

The opera house still plans to present the remaining two performances on Jan. 21 and 28, 2022.

The opera stars Heidi Stober as Donna Clara, Emily Magee as Ghita, and David Butt Philip and Mick Morris Mehnert in the title role. The cast also includes Philipp Jekal, Antonia Ahyoung Kim, Arianna Manganello, Karis Tucker, So Young Park, Kristina Häger, Adelle Eslinger-Runnicles, and Evgeny Nikiforov. Sir Donald Runnicles conducts a production by Tobias Kratzer with set and costume design by Rainer Sellmaier.

Germany has logged new 64,340 new cases on Jan. 5, 2022. The seven-day incidence in Germany currently stands at 285.9.
