Look out, Ree Drummond—there's a new food blogger in town!

(Well, actually, she lives in Dallas. And she's your offspring. 😂)

The Pioneer Woman's oldest daughter loves home cookin' just like her mom, and she recently started sharing some of her favorite recipes on Instagram. Alex's latest cooking adventure was inspired by her mother-in-law, Martha, who makes a mean homemade salsa.

"I'm going to start making my own salsa instead of buying it at the store!" Alex explained. "Mauricio's mom does this method all the time: grilling the tomatoes and peppers before blending."

She went on to share her step-by-step salsa process, which includes roasting all the veggies, adding a few extra ingredients like lime juice and cilantro, and blending everything together. Easy as one, two, three!

However, Alex did admit that her first try came out just a *little* too hot.

"Overall it's not bad but next time I need to add more onion and a little less peppers, 'cause it's very spicy," she said. "Trial and error baby!"

After experimenting with the ingredients, Alex shared her full salsa recipe with ThePioneerWoman.com. Try it at home and let her know how it turns out!

Alex's Homemade Salsa

  • 4 to 5 tomatoes or tomatillos
  • 1 jalapeño pepper (seeded or with seeds, depending on the spice level you prefer)
  • 2 serrano peppers, seeded (Note: If you don't like spice, omit these from the recipe. They are spicy!)
  • 1/2 white onion
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • Handful of chopped cilantro
  • Dash of lime juice
  • Salt to taste

Directions: Cut off stems of tomatoes and peppers, and seed if desired. Roast tomatoes and peppers on stovetop or in oven until tender. Once the veggies are roasted, place them in a blender with all of the other ingredients and pulse until the salsa reaches your preferred consistency. Add salt as needed and store covered in the refrigerator!
