Honor’s first foldable might cost even less than the Galaxy Z Fold 3
In less than a week, Honor will debut its first foldable phone, dubbed the Honor Magic V. The phone will sport a design similar to that of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 with an inward folding main screen. There have been a few leaks regarding what the phone will be able to provide in the power department, but one big question that has remained is how much the phone cost.
According to a new leak courtesy of @WhyLab on Weibo (via PlayfulDroid), that question might have just been answered. According to the leaked slide, it seems as though the base-model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage will start at CNY13,999, or about $2,200. If you want to double the storage, the 12GB/512GB variant will come in at CNY14,999, or about $2,350.
That’s surprisingly lower than expected, despite the fact that it will be the first foldable of 2022 to launch with the latest Snadpragon 8 Gen 1 CPU. For reference, the Z Fold 3 in China is priced at around CNY14,999, so for Honor to come in with its first foldable phone and undercut the best foldable from the start is impressive. According to other rumors, the phone will sport a 50MP main sensor as part of a triple camera array, along with up to 66W fast wired charging.
Not much else is known about the Honor Magic V from a software perspective, outside of that it should be released with Android 12 on board. What remains to be seen is how Honor will have optimized the software to take advantage of the new form-factor, something that remains a bit of sticking point when you look at the likes of the Z Fold 3 and Oppo Find N. Android 12L is set to be released sometime over the next few months, which may provide a bit of help for these companies, but we’ll have to wait a bit longer to see what actually comes.
