Rumor: Final Fantasy Games to Remain PlayStation Console Exclusives This Gen

Rumor: Final Fantasy Games to Remain PlayStation Console Exclusives This Gen - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 03 March 2022 / 13,415 Views

Square started the Final Fantasy series by releasing them on Nintendo consoles, before switching to PlayStation consoles. The release of Final Fantasy 13 on the Xbox 360 saw the series become multiplatform.

However, it appears the Final Fantasy series might once again be exclusive to PlayStation consoles. VideoGamesChronicle journalist Jordan Middler via ResetEra claims Sony wants to keep Final Fantasy as a PlayStation exclusive this generation.

"It's interesting to see Ubisoft side with Xbox more and more this gen while Square is firmly in Sony's camp, even beyond what's publicly known," said Middler. "This is a cool move, but I wonder what price we'll be looking at for Ultimate + Ubi. This is turning into a very exciting gen."

Rumor: Final Fantasy Games to Remain PlayStation Console Exclusives This Gen

Middler added, "Most of Square's stuff will end up on Xbox, but I wouldn't hold out hope for [Final Fantasy] unless something changes. Sony want PS to be the home of [Final Fantasy] this gen. [Final Fantasy VII Remake] was supposed to be on Xbox by now, but here we are."

He did say that Square Enix does want to release all of their titles on PC.

"Square is keen to keep putting everything on PC, even if the ports aren't great," he said. "Timed exclusives."

Square Enix did release Final Fantasy VII Remake as a PS4 console exclusive in April 2020 before it released on the PS5 in June 2021 and PC in December 2021. Final Fantasy XVI is currently planned to launch exclusively on the PS5.

Hopefully Dragon Quest XII will still come to Nintendo.

To whoever downvoted this: I'd love to hear some great arguments as to why DQ XII will not release on a Nintendo console.

We'll probably get those around the same time we get a firm release date for Ken Levine's new game.

Seriously. Square Enix not only made it so that a 3DS version of Dragon Quest XI was developed which included a 2D and 3D Mode, but also essentially spent the time and money to "remake" the PS4 version for Switch. Regardless of how Dragon Quest XII looks on PS5, I'm certain Square Enix would develop a comparable version for the next Switch and possibly even the current Switch.

Normally I can understand why companies do this but to me it seems strange cuz this doesn’t really hurt Xbox as who really buys a Xbox for FF as it’s always know to playstation and it always sells better on playstation so why would sony waste money making it exclusive when they can maybe use that money for other things.

  • +7
Sogreblute Moseskyle83 (on 06 January 2022)

Sony wasting money on this (if true) makes no sense. Most console gamers who like FF will play on PS. That's where a majority of FF console sales come from, so having it on Xbox will not hurt them. My guess is Gamepass. Imagine if FF7RI came to Xbox Series and PC at the same time as PS5. Microsoft would easily try to jump on getting it on Gamepass. Same goes for FF16. I think Sony truly sees Gamepass taking away a lot of potential sales.

  • +2
Brimac19 Sogreblute (on 07 January 2022)

But if your complaining about this it obviously has upset you. Just buy all 3 consoles over time and you won’t miss out on anything. Personally I’m very happy with my PS5 and Switch.?

  • -7
Sogreblute Brimac19 (on 07 January 2022)

I own all 3 consoles + a gaming PC. I'm just saying this literally makes no sense for Sony to do unless they truly fear Microsoft will jump to put those games on Gamepass day one.

I bought a PS4 solely for FF7 remake. I played a few other games, but that is the ONLY reason I purchased one. I would have skipped if it had come to xbox (last gen) or PC.

Well, having having access to both platforms, I could not care much about third parties behind exclusives, my only grip is that for Play Station, I need to play with their controller until there is a decent third party ones coming out with offset analog sticks and it usually takes 1 or 2 years (rumors are that we will get one in the Q1-2022 from Nacon, and I got the pro one for Play Station Four and it was amazing, so I'm very hopefull).
I am eagerly waiting for this and if no FF games come out on Xbox, I'll play them on Play Station. For Horizon West tho, I will not wait and even if it hurts after one or two hours, I'll play with the damn controller ahah

  • 0
victor83fernandes Imaginedvl (on 06 January 2022)

I also had issues with playstation controllers, thumb sticks were always in the wrong position, when you move forward it feels like your thumb is going to slip.
With that said its now much better when I bought Kontrol Freaks.

  • -7
Brimac19 victor83fernandes (on 07 January 2022)

Actually the PS sticks are in the better ergonomic natural position. I think you’ve just gotten use to playing xb controllers over the years. I much prefer the dualsense pad!!!?

  • +3
victor83fernandes Brimac19 (on 07 January 2022)

Wrong, I have played way more on playstation over xbox over the years, I had ps since the first one. Xbox controller thumbstick is just better, no way around it, I have all 3 controllers and play now mostly ps5. It will never be good, ps d-pad was in that position due to no thumb sticks on the original one, but nowadays most games use the left thumbstick for movement. Sony considered changing, but they left it just because of brand recognition, they said this, not because of ergonomics.
Most pros play with offset sticks.

  • -3
Brimac19 Imaginedvl (on 07 January 2022)

DonFerrari (on 06 January 2022)

When FF stopped being exclusive on gen7, that wasn't really necessary since no one expected to have it on Xbox, but now it going back to exclusive is bad to the customers on Xbox that were expecting it. At least it is skipping Xbox and not PS because that is a IP I really like but wouldn't be happy to buy Xbox only for it.

  • +3
victor83fernandes DonFerrari (on 06 January 2022)

No one buys a console for just 1 single game. I would never do that even tough I have plenty money.
No one bought a ps for just final fantasy, there's always some more exclusive games making it worth the purchase.
For anyone undecided on ps5 or xbox, this is just another reason to go ps5, along with the many other exclusives. Xbox is needing games really bad, it had halo and forza and that was it for the whole generation. PS already had returnal, demon souls, spiderman, sackboy, final fantasy 7, ratchet and clank, Kena, ghosts of tsushima, deathloop, death stranding and will have GT7 in less than 2 months. And then theres the backwards compatible games, where ps4 wins by far with games like god of war, uncharted, resogun, spiderman, last of us, shadow of the colossus, infamous, killzone, detroit, the last guardian, bloodborne, Horizon and others like Loco roco.

  • -6
DonFerrari victor83fernandes (on 07 January 2022)

I didnt say anyone buys for one game, and that is exactly why Im saying that after it being multiplat going single platform isnt good for customers and that I wouldnt like to buy xbox to play FF since no other game over there matters to me.

Well it is not helping them. Where's VR for xbox? Where's the amazing game of the year level of exclusives? Where's the evolution in the controller such as adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, touchpad etc?
For a company with so much money, they seem to be on the cheap side.

  • -1
JackHandy victor83fernandes (on 06 January 2022)

They probably spent most of that R&D on Gamepass and funding its frameworks.

  • 0
victor83fernandes JackHandy (on 07 January 2022)

Yeah that's my point, I don't care for gamepass or online or any services, I will never pay for any service, I just want brand new great games. In the case of VR that's way more useful as that's new ways to play new games. I will always buy my games on disc when possible and always will want to own my games, so I just rather wait for sales or second hand and buy them cheap. Same with my music and movies, I love to have my own collection, not dependent on services or the internet.
Still thats no excuse for no VR, last gen gamepass was already a thing, before the new console, it was already done, just like last gen the psVR was already done, now they did the second VR, sony is moving forward and investing in gaming, microsoft seems to not care much.

  • -1

Well what has that purchase done for xbox? Sony is still pumping top rated exclusives, microsoft is still behind. By the time the next elder scrolls launches, ps5 will have a huge pile of great exclusives.
They could catch up, remember when titanfall was online only? Had they built a great single player and not be lazy and cheap, it would have done wonders, same for sea of thieves, could have been one of the best games ever made, but it was built for online, so I skipped it again.

Well that means Microsoft need to do their own JRPG. Blue Dragon 2.0

  • +1
G2ThaUNiT yvanjean (on 06 January 2022)

They don't even have to go that far. Sony, at least from what I can tell, partners for their exclusive JRPG's rather than their first-party studios making them. Games like Final Fantasy and Persona, Sony just signs exclusivity deals. Microsoft could partner with a major Japanese studio to have an exclusive JRPG. Because I don't think Tango Gameworks will be making that kind of game any time soon or ever lol

  • +1
yvanjean G2ThaUNiT (on 06 January 2022)

Agreed they don't need to make their own JRPG studios just need to use their IP's. Microsoft owns the Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey IPs. I would love a sequel for either one of them. I actually preferred Lost Odyssey.

G2ThaUNiT victor83fernandes (on 07 January 2022)

That’s……kinda what a lot of Xbox first party studios are working on. I don’t think you realize how many or Xbox’s studios are single player rpg specialists. Obsidian Entertainment is working on Avowed and Outer Worlds 2. Playground Games is working on a Fable reboot, inXile Entertainment is rumored to be working on Victorian Era rpg fps, and then of course Bethesda working on Starfield. Gotta look at all the studios and see what they’re working on. I’m personally more excited for these games rather than Sonys for the first time in a long time. This generation is going to be a LOT more competitive this time around

  • +4
victor83fernandes G2ThaUNiT (on 08 January 2022)

I've been hearing that story since the xbox series X launched over a year ago. Starfield is the only game that could come this year (I bet it will be pushed to 2023). By then I can buy an xbox at retail price (if I don't return to my country where I have a powerful PC which would make xbox pointless)

You say this gen is going to be competitive, but this year alone we have a new god of war, a new GT, a new Horizon and Forspoken, Sifu, Babylon's fall (platinum games), Stray (might not be that great), Tchia (we will see the reviews), on xbox side only Starfield which again is a minimum of 10 months away and stalker 2 (we will see review), Redfall (could be good if it has a proper single player)
If PS VR2 launches this year, people will just ignore the xbox.

I'd say PS5 wins for exclusives, god of war and GT7 and horizon will be guaranteed masterpieces.

  • -3
smroadkill15 victor83fernandes (on 08 January 2022)

Who are you trying to convince when you pump up PS games and downplay Xbox? Anyone who actually pays attention isn't falling for it. Both have great games in the works. Starfield, Redfall, and Forza Motorsport from MS. Sony with God of War, Horizon, and GT7. Both systems have 3rd party exclusives scattered throughout the year. Naming a bunch of timed exclusives for Sony and purposely ignoring most for Xbox just to puff up the number of PS exclusives is petty.

  • 0
G2ThaUNiT (on 06 January 2022)

I haven't cared for Ubisoft games in years, and Square.....the way they treat their PC audience is garbage! Every PC port somehow gets worse and worse with FFVII Remake being its worst yet. Now both companies are embracing NFT's despite the outcries to not have them in gaming. Square's president practically gave the finger to those who prefer to play video games just for fun.

I've wiped my hands with both companies at this point. Ubisoft more so than Square because I REALLY wanna enjoy the FF games, but Square keeps digging themselves a deeper hole for me personally.

Even with its problems on pc, FFVII is still a fantastic game. I know PC gamers are elitist and need every feature. Oh no a frame rate drop, oh no I can't tweak the already gorgeous graphics.

  • 0
G2ThaUNiT rapsuperstar31 (on 06 January 2022)

Sounds like you haven't played the PC port yet if you think a frame drop was the extent of its issues. The game isn't optimized for crap! I had to refund it on EGS after 10 minutes. If a game has constant problems with performance every second of gameplay, you're not going to be able to enjoy the game. That's regardless of platform and regardless of how good a game actually is. Especially if you're charging $70 for it. I'm just hoping Square fixes its problems by the time it comes to Steam. Knowing Square though, it's unlikely. I'm not going to pay more for less.

It's still an elitist entitlement frame of mind. As a console gamer I don't even know what DLSS is or care what it is. The game looks and play fantastic on console and that is all I need. Square released a barebone game to the pc public, guess what that is the product, and you have to decide if that is worth it to you or not to buy. They don't owe you anything beyond a barebones experience and you don't owe them to support it...it is what it is move on and buy a different game.

  • 0
G2ThaUNiT rapsuperstar31 (on 07 January 2022)

Okay, you're clearly out of your depth to understand this specific subject. A barebones port is by far not my biggest issue for me personally. How about this, pay $70 for an unplayable broken mess of a game and let me know if you have the same mindset. I pay for a working game/product. That's how it should be. I have no idea how anyone could defend a company for making something work on one platform, but doing a crap job on another, and charging the same price. I don't understand this frame of mind.

Because apparently this site is still infested with the negative mentality that PC gamers have to adhere to console gamer's viewpoint of being happy with having less features/options.

I thought we'd gotten over this a few years ago by now, but apparently not, and it's "elitist" to want a decent level of consistency when it comes to port quality/having options in your games.

Well then none of this should even remotely matter to you then and should probably stay out of it, instead of butting in to say that it's elitist that we only want things to stay consistent and be given the standard level of options, instead of getting less and not being able to voice our concerns.

"they don't owe you anything" is basically you admitting that you don't care for quality anything, only that you defend the company, which doesn't at all do anything for the customer. You honestly shouldn't be holding such a viewpoint because you are not working for said company at all, you are a customer, not a corp slave.

Typical ubisoft game, huge massive open world, with a lot of support with big DLCs, a lot of voice acting, all well done, great graphics and great use of adaptive triggers, perfect performance, great characters, great music, 1-2 second loadings, a lot of content, I mean really a lot, more than most any other game, and then all of this for one of the cheapest prices on ps5 games. What have you got against ubisoft or this game? I don't get it, unless you're just going with the flow, it seems to be cool for the young kids to hate on ubisoft.
PC is no home for neither Final fantasy or ubisoft games, assassins creed is usually not very well optimized for PC, and its understandable that these developers favour console as the PC is riddle with piracy.
And you playing a bit at a friends house means nothing, this is a 100 hour game, you need time to get to know the characters.

What about the side quests? Not repetitive fillers??

  • -1
victor83fernandes KratosLives (on 07 January 2022)

All side quests in games are fillers, you don't have to do them, if you take them out, the story is still bigger than most games. I dont know what games you play, but Fifas and call of dutys are 4-8 hours games which are copies of previous year versions, and they tend to be more expensive than ubisoft games. What do you think you do in most jrpgs, fighting to upgrade, you repeat the same fights hundreds of times, those are also fillers.

  • -8
KratosLives victor83fernandes (on 07 January 2022)

Which is why I don't play jrpg's that involve doing the same thing over and over to level up. I play the ones that have variety so it feels fresh as you progress.

I was a fan of assassins creed until it lost the stealth aspect and started feeling like " been there, done that".

Ubisoft quantity rarely equals quality. I get so bored from the repetition of Ubisoft's open world games, and that formula never deviates regardless of franchise. I'm not saying all Ubisoft games are bad, I'm saying the formula their games follow isn't my cup of tea.

I don't feel like typing everything out, so here's a good rundown video I found that pretty much summarizes how I feel about Ubisoft games. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_9ZpkGql9U&t=162s

I will mention though the only Ubisoft game I'm looking forward to is Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope

  • -1
victor83fernandes G2ThaUNiT (on 07 January 2022)

All games have repetition, that's the nature of open world games. Even linear games have repetition, see uncharted for example, you go into next zone, and shootout, then a bit of climbing platforms, then shootout, then climbing platforms, repeat for 20 hours.
Ghosts of tsushima, again, the same as ubisoft, repeat repeat.

  • -3
Kakadu18 victor83fernandes (on 08 January 2022)

Different games have a different level of repetition. Many Ubisoft games have to much repetition and not enough fresh ideas.

  • 0
KratosLives victor83fernandes (on 08 January 2022)

Ghosts atleast has some freshness, not just in aesthetics, but in the variery of weapon upgrades and animations, interesting and different sidequests, with some well written dialogue.

If you've been gaming since the ps2/ps3 era, and played most AAA games, and experienced many similar or games with better features, then certain things just stand out more.

I guess matter of opinions differ on what you've played, for how long.

I stopped when they decided to both make 3 of their IP's exclusive to a particular storefront, as well as trying to forcefully dabble in NFT's.

Hearing the shit coming from his mouth like "even if the ports aren't great" just solidifies my decision to not bother with them at this point, because they clearly stopped giving a care for port quality, or anything else outside of PlayStation territory.

I guess I'm in the minority, but I enjoy these sorts of things. It gives each console an identity. If every system had the same games, it would get boring really fast for me.

Besides, most of us will always associate FF with Playstation anyway. Yes, I know it started out on NES and SNES, but when I think 3D FF, I think Playstation. So this just feels like the IP is going home.

Hopefully PlayStation protects it from play to contribute practices. Or they should buy Square all together so that they are not allowed to make such stupid choices anymore, also works.

Final fantasy will always be on Playstation. Ff14 making them so much money if they don't make final fantasy exclusive to Playstation , Sony will not let ff14 expansion release on Playstation

Ff14 the most successful square Enix game ever thanks to Playstation. Every main line final fantasy always sell millions on Playstation. Its why you will never see another final fantasy exclusive to xbox or Nintendo.

I don't think FF has ever been exclusive to Xbox? And hate to burst your bubble but according to Final Fantasy 14 Director Naoki Yoshida XIV is still coming to xbox.

Ff14 isn't coming to xbox. Yoshi never confirmed it. Ff14 as a playstation console exclusive is the most successful square Enix game ever.

"even if the ports aren't great"

haha, fuck you, that's not how you go about business.

You make the ports "better" over time, not "take what you can get".

They shouldn't even be pulling this shit, because there is still good money being left on the table, stop being such an arrogant prick of a company, SE.

An ironic comment coming from you.

Woah, that is devastating coming from someone with as high quality of an output as you. I am never going to emotionally recover from this.

On a serious note, sorry that FF hasn’t really been relevant since I was 14 ?

And this is why I went ps5 instead of Xbox this generation, I couldn't miss so many great exclusives such as Uncharted, last of us, god of war, GT, Ratchet, returnal, resogun, days gone, final fantasy, kena bridge of spirits, demon souls, ghosts of tsushima, death stranding, Sackboy, spiderman, Horizon and many more.
Without xbox I only miss Halo, as I already have both Ori games on my switch, and I was never a fan of forza horizon as its too arcade for me.
I will miss the next elder scrolls and fallout but those are years away from release.

Other thing people seem to forget which is a huge advantage to ps5, VR. I am amazed that Microsoft hasn't really done anything on xbox VR related. This alone could be reason enough to choose ps5 over xbox.

If Microsoft was doing it right, I would already have a series X, money is no issue, it costs 5 days of work worth of savings. And that's the current scalper prices, if I'd buy at retail price it would be only 4 days savings. I also get a 20% discount on anything, because I live in the channel Islands where they remove VAT.
If there was at least 2 or 3 new must have games, I'd already have the series X.
Why is it hard to believe that some gamers do not care for online or for subscriptions? I'm old style, I have been gaming since the NES on early 90's and I always had my own games, and only tried online on ps3 with killzone 2, free month subscription, then I realize I had no time for online. Then I delved online again with ps4 on destiny, free month subscription, it was far too repetitive and got old quick.
I have free online on PC and i never ever even try online at all, I barely have free time to play the campaigns.
And you speak like someone who has never tried VR, it is really the next thing in gaming, its definitely not gamepass.

Nobody even mentioned subs or online. If that's your issue, Xbox has some exciting single player focused games in the works like Starfield, hellblade 2, Perfect Dark, Outer Worlds 2, Indiana Jones, Elder Scrolls, and Avowed. Xbox has has lot of studios focused on single player. experiences now.

victor83fernandes smroadkill15 (on 08 January 2022)

Yes, like I said, read my comment slower, I will buy one when there's enough exclusives to justify it, starfield might not even come this year, and we are still in January. They might have studios, but modern games take 3-5 years to make. By then I might be able to even buy a series X second hand. I also always give a few months for games to drop in prices, so even if starfield would launch this year, I would not purchase it until next year.
Elder scrolls I doubt would come in the next 3 years. The last fallout was horrible so thats another one Im not excited in the least. We still dont have any launch date for Forza 8.
Typical xbox, greatness coming in the future. When this future arrives then Ill consider it.

xbox is only doing great because of
1 - gamepass, which I don't care for
2 - Forza horizon 5, which I don't care for
3 - Series S, which is constantly available for sale, and I don't care for as I'd never buy an underpowered console with no disc drive

PS - Xbox might be doing great but they are still behind ps5 by about 50%, even tough they have stock for the series S and there's no stock for ps5. So my point was, there is still a reason why people favour the PS brand, you just choose to ignore it. A lot of people care for VR, the new controller features and games like last of us, ghosts of tsushima, spiderman, god of war, GT, Final fantasy 7, death stranding, days gone, demon souls, personna 5, ratchet, Kena and many more.
Xbox didnt even bother to change the OS for the new generation console, believe it or not but many people feel the change in the OS makes it feel more new, I actually love the ps5 cards and challenges you get on games when you press the home button, its actually a great idea and feels next gen.
Mostly people favour playstation because sony has proven themselves time and time again, every generation they deliver great exclusive games, microsoft has a tendency to create hype but years after launch they kinda ignore the consoles, like the first xbox, also the 360 when they started great, and the one when we got the Ori games late in the generation but not much else.

Sony has proven they care until the end of the generation, games like spiderman, god of war, days gone, Ni no kuni, ghosts of tsushima, death stranding, last of us and many more are all late gen games.

I try not to get involved in this dumb console stuff as I have already been banned for it before, but man, Victor, your comments just scream nothing but bootlicking for Sony. It's really cringy to be honest.

You're not even being objective. Game Pass is a great service and just because you don't use it, doesn't take away from the value and content. Same with FH5, excellent game that I could care less if you don't like. Halo: Infinite you fail to mention.
A new OS doesn't make one better or worse. I think most agree, the OS staying the same was the correct move. XSeries gets the feature rich OS of what was already there without losing anything and much faster. Quick resume is as much of a next gen feature as anything on the PS5.

victor83fernandes smroadkill15 (on 09 January 2022)

You fail to understand my point, I want brand new great games, gamepass doesn't offer that, services don't offer that.
New generation should have a new OS, especially xbox that has a very crowded OS, they should have simplified it, less adds, less windows and menus that you cant remove. Every console until now has had a new OS, xbox series is the first console to use the same OS as previous generation, its not bad, just doesn't scream next gen.

In the end the most important thing is brand new games, xbox had halo infinite. Nowhere near what PS5 is doing. FH5 might be a good game, but its exactly a copy of 3 and 4, if you played those then you already played 5.
PS5 had variety, stuff like final fantasy 7, death stranding, ghosts of tsushima, Sackboy, Returnal, Ratchet and clank, Demon souls, Kena bridge of spirits, spiderman, deathloop, and with the upcoming GT7, Horizon 2 and new god of war coming this year, I don't get it how a gamer can not see why people favour the PS5, unless these said gamers are biased, even if you were PC only, and would never get a console, you'd agree that PS5 has the games advantage, not to even mention the upcoming VR and innovation in the controller.
Doesnt take much intelligence to see.

I agree. Xbox is on the right path this gen. All 3 have lots of great games in the works. The fact Victor has to work this hard just to convince himself Xbox is bad, tells us this.

I do not have to work hard, anyone can take a look at console sales for every generation, xbox is lacking against playstation, if you cant figure out why then that's your problem, I already explained why.

smroadkill15 victor83fernandes (on 09 January 2022)

Xbox sales are looking good to me.
Xbox is never going to outsell the ps5 this gen, even if they do everything right and release GOTY games each year. PS brand is way too strong in certain regions. Maybe if Xbox proves this gen that they are dedicated to releasing excellent games, they might have a chance next gen.

  • +2
victor83fernandes smroadkill15 (on 09 January 2022)

So you get my point, and yet you down vote, I don't get it.
Somehow Xbox fans take offense when someone says something against Xbox, all 3 console manufacturers have issues, I am a fan of all consoles and I do not own stock so I don't care for either, so my opinions are unbiased.

The only reason PS keeps outselling Xbox every single time is simply games, from the day Microsoft decided to put all games on PC it sealed its fate. Sure they get more profits and all that, more money, but Xbox as a console will never be as successful as it could be. If they wanted they would have overtaken Sony on the console market, easily.
Last gen they should have introduced VR, and invested in brand new exclusive single player games, not on PC and not on any other console.
Example, if Halo infinite was not on Xbox one, and not on PC, it would have made the Xbox series way more desirable, not enough to overtake Sony, but each bit counts.
They didn't even bother changing the OS or even the controller, so it doesn't make the console desirable, because most people do not see it as a new gen console, they just see it as a small upgrade to the one X.

Trust me when I say I was always more a fan of Xbox than PS, especially on the 360 generation, I bought it at launch and loved games like Mass effect, Rockstar Tennis, Gears of War, Ghost recon advanced warfighter, Forza 2, Halo 3, Oblivion, Dead space, Dead Rising, Rainbow six vegas, Test drive unlimited, Black, Bioshock, Project ghotam racing 4, Ace combat 6, The darkness, Assassins creed, Stranglehold and more, I remember Microsoft killing PS back then, they had the opportunity to overtake Sony, they had a much better online, a cheaper console, a better controller, launched one year earlier. And all those amazing games you could play way before they reached PS3 if at all. Also nicer graphics, I remember most games performing better on Xbox or just having better AA on it. Also the Xbox controller had vibration which ps3 didn't. And then Xbox got backwards compatibility too.
I saw Xbox 360 as the next dreamcast, I was in gaming heaven.
Even last gen I got a one X way before getting the ps4 pro, I actually sold my ps4, I had around 6 or 7 ps4 last gen, I was always upset with Sony, be it because of controllers poor quality and poor battery, or mostly due to loud fan noise, so I tended to favour Xbox especially when they launched the elite controller and ps didn't have any proper controller.
I remember at one time selling my ps4 pro and promising I would never buy a Sony console again, but with games like spiderman, god of war, days gone and more, I ended up getting another ps4 pro, 3rd revision, at least the fan noise was reduced, but Xbox still had the quality hardware, just not the games.
Don't get me wrong, Dead rising 3 was amazing, Halo masterchief collection was amazing, Ori was incredible, Forza 7 was brilliant, Recore was great, as good as Horizon zero dawn but apart from that I feel there was nothing, I didn't like sunset overdrive, didn't like halo 4 or 5, gears 4 and 5 was also not as good as the previous, I was not a fan of the forza horizon series, I don't play online, so sea of thieves and titanfall was pointless, and really for the whole generation it was lacking, a lot.

And then ps launched VR, which further cemented to me that Xbox was done and they were done half way through the 360 generation, back when PS was still getting great games like Last of Us, God of war 3, GT6, Ni no kuni etc

I do love videogames, it doesn't matter who is making the console, so I still say PS5 is the console to get this generation if you can only choose 1 console. Not only for the must have exclusives, but also for the upcoming VR.

smroadkill15 victor83fernandes (on 09 January 2022)

No, your point is not the same as mine because you're saying Xbox is doing poorly across the board right now and that is why it's being outsold, which isn't the case.
You realize a systems OS and controller isn't a console selling features? As long as the OS works well, that's all that matters. Sure, MS could have done more with the controller, but it's already a great controller with everything we really need. Shit, the PS controller was very similar the same for the first 3 gens, but did that stop anyone from buying a PS1,2, and 3. These are all personally issues you have, but nothing that will or have effect sales.

VR, once again, is a really cool thing to have, but so far not enough of a game changer to impact sales in a significant way as of now.
It really only comes down to games, price, and power (lesser extent) for system selling features. As long as MS can check all those boxes, they should do well this gen, and so far, they have.

Releasing games on PC is also not a big deal for console players, and we can see that with the sales now. The Xseries is selling better than the Xbone and 360 in the same time frame, and both systems had full console exclusives. Sony is doing the same thing now. PC players know they only need to wait a year or two for a PC release. It's only a matter of time before they go day and date with a PC release, and I don't see it effecting console sales when they do.
