Northlake, who are based in Dallas, Texas, are a band that have already earned themselves plenty of support from music fans and outlets alike thanks to their ability to perfectly blend pop, rock and indie, with lyrics that are both catchy and insightful. Their latest single “Heavy Hand”, which PopWrapped are delighted to premiere, was originally due to be released last month, but the band instead opted to kick off 2022 with it instead, offering listeners an immensely powerful and thought-provoking song to reflect on at the start of this new year.
Asked about the track, the band share: “It’s a story of addiction and the effect it has on people in and around it. It’s told from the perspective of someone trapped in a deeply broken family; someone who is powerful and strong, but can do nothing as their world collapses around them at the hand of someone they so desperately wanted to trust.”
They go on to add, referring to the composition of the song, that it: “…consists of painfully honest storytelling over a melodic waltz of weighted impactful instrumentals that builds into massive choruses conveying an anguished yet defiant emotion that is deeply human.”
“Heavy Hand” is also a considerably personal song to and for the band. It was inspired by events that took place within the close family of one member, while others found they had experienced similar things. By talking about these times, the group realised that not everyone has people around them that they can reach out to for help during tough times and the song became a sort of cathartic outlet to address this reality.
