Three people, including a woman and her 8-year-old son, are dead following a double murder-suicide early Thursday morning at a Tuscaloosa County home. Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Capt. Jack Kennedy reported that Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched around 3 a.m. to the 9700 block of Charolais Drive to check on a reported shooting. Upon arrival at the scene, Kennedy said deputies made contact with several witnesses who believed a man may have shot a woman during an argument inside of the home.Witnesses told police they fled the area, but they believed the woman was still inside of the home with her son and the man.Kennedy said the sheriff's office's Tactical Unit was called to the scene to enter the residence. Once inside, they found 29-year-old Derika McGhee and her son Aiden Williams dead, along with 34-year-old Darrin Patton Jr. Patton who was allegedly McGhee's boyfriend.Authorities said all signs point to Patton killing McGhee and Williams before he killed himself. The TVCU said Patton was not the father of the child, and the investigation is ongoing.Williams was a youth baseball player for the Tuscaloosa Batmen. The team released the following statement Thursday evening:"Our Batmen family has received devastating news this morning. Our #27, forever a part of our Batmen family. You were one of a kind. Your laugh was contagious and would light up any room. On the ball field, you were top notch. You had so much ahead of you."Please, please join us in prayer. For our ball family, for our young boys as they deal with the loss of a best friend and teammate at such a young age, and for the entire family of Aiden as they navigate the days ahead. Speechless and numb this morning.. but thankful for a God who heals all wounds, calms all worries, carries all our struggles, and wipes every tear as we cry them."
