Here’s a bit of trivia the true Beatles buffs know: on January 30th, 1969, The Fab Four staged their last-ever concert on the roof of their Apple Corps Saville Road headquarters in London, England. Though only a handful of lucky Londonites were in attendance, audiences across the U.S. will be able to experience it in as close a recreation as possible when a film of The Beatles’ final rooftop concert screens in select IMAX theaters across the country on January 30th, 2022—exactly 53 years later .

Comprised of footage used in Peter Jackson‘s new Beatles documentary Get Back, the IMAX screenings will also include a director Q&A following the 42-minute performance, simulcast via satellite across the country. Jackson’s documentary, streaming now on Disney+, was culled from over 50 hours of film first shot by Michael Lindsay-Hogg in 1969 as The Beatles recorded what would become their final album, Let It Be.

As part of the heavily orchestrated build-up to the original project, The Beatles went to the rooftop of Apple Corps on January 30th, 1969 for an impromptu concert. The band had not performed for a ticketed audience since August 29th, 1966 at Candlestick Park. This time, Paul McCartneyJohn LennonGeorge Harrison, and Ringo Starr opted to use the element of surprise—and take the high ground—in hopes of avoiding scores of screeching teenyboppers. Joined by keyboardist Billy Preston, the band recorded nine takes of five tracks including “Get Back”, “Don’t Let Me Down”, “I’ve Got a Feeling”, “One After 909”, and “Dig a Pony”.

“I’m thrilled that the rooftop concert from The Beatles: Get Back is going to be experienced in IMAX, on that huge screen,” Jackson said in a statement. “It’s The Beatles’ last concert, and it’s the absolute perfect way to see and hear it.”

Tickets for The Beatles rooftop concert experience at select IMAX theaters on January 30th are on sale now. Following the IMAX premiere, a global theatrical engagement will take place February 11th–13th.
