Google Pixel 3 Emergency Calling Bug Fixed By New Update

The emergency calling bug has been plaguing the Google Pixel 3 devices for a while now, but it has finally been fixed. A surprise new update has rolled out to the Pixel 3 and 3 XL, despite the fact they’re not eligible for security updates any longer.

As most of you know, Google started rolling out the January Android 12 security update to the Pixel 6 series a couple of days ago. That does not include the Pixel 6 series, though, as those two phones will get a special update later this month.

In any case, that security update includes security-related fixes, and it includes a fix that prevents emergency calling. Well, the Pixel 3 and 3 XL didn’t get that security update per se, but they did get a fix for the emergency calling bug.

The two phones stopped getting updates in October last year, but Google didn’t forget about them. The software version of the said update is SP1A.210812.016.A2, and it’s now rolling out to both unlocked and Verizon variants of the Pixel 3 and 3 XL.

Do note that the update is not large at all, it weighs only 497KB. It is rolling out OTA (Over-The-Air) as we speak, though it’s possible it may take a while before it arrives to your phone. These are staged updates, as you probably already know.

You can install this update manually, if you want

Now, if you’re unwilling to wait for the update to reach your device, you can always install it manually. Both Factory and OTA images for the update are available to download.

This emergency calling bug has been plaguing Pixel users for a while now. The original issue was reported by a Pixel 3 user, so it was obvious the problem includes the Pixel 3 series.

Do note that the Pixel 3 and 3 XL will not be getting any new features, though. They’ve reached the end of their update cycle.
