'Peaky Blinders' Season 6 Netflix Release Date, Cast, Trailer, Plot

Peaky Blinders has been away from screens for two years, but the show is finally coming back to Netflix in the U.S. and the BBC in the U.K.

The release date for the sixth and final season of the Cillian Murphy gangster series has been set for 2022. And many big names from across the show's history are rejoining the cast, including Tom Hardy and Anya Taylor-Joy.

The BBC has also released a trailer for the show which gives fans their first glimpse of the plot for the final season—and by the looks of it, the fascism subplot of the last season is set to continue.

Here's what we know about the final episodes of Peaky Blinders.

'Peaky Blinders' Season 6 Release Date

So far, we know that Peaky Blinders is coming back in early 2022 on the BBC. But when exactly the show is airing has not been revealed yet.

What we do know is that U.S. viewers will get the episodes later than U.K. fans will. Traditionally, Netflix gets the show six weeks after the BBC does due to the conditions of the deal the companies have on the show. This means that the likely U.S. release date will be a month and a half after the British one.

Who Is in the Cast of 'Peaky Blinders' Season 6?

The trailer confirmed that the following were set to return:

  • Cillian Murphy - Tommy Shelby
  • Tom Hardy - Alfie Solomons
  • Paul Anderson - Arthur Shelby
  • Finn Cole - Michael Gray
  • Anya Taylor-Joy - Gina Gray
  • Sophie Rundle - Ada Shelby
  • Sam Claflin - Oswald Mosley

The trailer also confirmed that Boardwalk Empire and The Irishman star Stephen Graham is joining the cast. Who he is playing has not been revealed, though fan speculation has it that he might be portraying the American gangster Al Capone. This speculation, however, might have to be treated with suspicion—another fan theory had it that Mr. Bean star Rowan Atkinson would be playing Adolf Hitler in the final season, something that was denied by a spokesperson for the show.

Also joining the show is Emma actor Amber Anderson, playing a female adversary to Tommy. Also joining the cast is Animal Kingdom's James Frecheville and Baptiste's Conrad Khan.

One cast member who will not be appearing in Season 6 is Aunt Polly actor Helen McCrory, who died in 2021 after a battle with cancer. Her co-star Cillian Murphy told The Guardian: "She would have been in series 6 if the pandemic hadn't put everything on hold. We were just five days away from shooting in March 2020 when the lockdown was announced. Helen was the heart of that show and it was hard to make it without her. Really hard. There was this huge absence on the set. We all felt it. She died while we were shooting. She was too young."

What Will Happen in 'Peaky Blinders' Season 6?

In a statement, creator Steven Knight teased: "Peaky is back and with a bang. After the enforced production delay due to the Covid pandemic, we find the family in extreme jeopardy and the stakes have never been higher."

In a Digital Spy interview, series director Anthony Byrne dropped some hints about a dangerous female character, believed to be the one being played by Anderson. "There's a great female character who is new, who is pretty dark," he said. "I won't say who she is, but she certainly gives Tommy a run for his money."

They added: "They don't have guns or a gang, but they have an ideology that's like a virus and it's more dangerous than anything."

As for the trailer, it reveals that the rise of fascism in Britain will continue to be tracked in the show. Sam Claflin returns as real-life British Union of Fascists leader Sir Oswald Mosley, and one scene shows an audience entering a building festooned with swastikas.

Other than that, the promo does not reveal much in the way of plot details, save for teasing that there is "one more deal to be done, then the Peaky Blinders rest."

Peaky Blinders Seasons 1 to 5 are streaming now on Netflix.
