Pokémon GO Eevee evolutions: name trick and evolve conditions

Eevee is the cutest and most versatile of all Pokémon. Eight different evolutions, nicknamed eeveelutions by the fans, for the little pocket monster are now available in Pokémon GO, and not even all types are covered by those yet. Evolving Eevee in the smartphone game has become a scientific discipline in its own right – especially if it is to be done in a targeted manner.

See, if you simply evolve an Eevee in Pokémon GO, the resulting evolution is going to be randomized. But in most cases, you’re looking to get a specific Pokémon out of it. This guide will show you to get the specific eeveelution you desire. Check out our XP farming guide to get to max level fast.

Evolving Eevee: All names for the name trick 2022

Pokemon Go - Season of Heritage

Here’s the easiest method to get just the eeveelution you’re looking for: the name trick. It works like this: Give the Eevee you want to evolve a specific nickname. After that, the outline of the monster you want should appear on the evolve button when viewing that Eevee. Tap the button and you’ll have the eeveelution you desired.

But beware: this trick only works once for each evolution, so think carefully about whether you want to use it. It is advisable, for example, to save the name trick for the targeted evolution of a rare Shiny variant.

Here are all the names for Eevee’s evolutions in Pokémon GO:

  • Rainer (for Vaporeon)
  • Sparky (for Jolteon)
  • Pyro (for Flareon)
  • Tamao (for Umbreon)
  • Sakura (for Espeon)
  • Rea (for Glaceon)
  • Linnea (for Leafeon)
  • Kira (for Sylveon)

Pokémon GO: Targeted evolutions of Eevee

Pokemon Go will have a small number of in-person events in early 2022

How else can eeveelutions be targeted? For Vaporeon, Jolteon, and Flareon, this is sadly not possible, since the elemental stones aren’t available in Pokémon GO – the three original eeveelutions can only be obtained by simple chance during the evolution of Eevee. However, all other forms can be obtained specifically if you complete a few tasks.

Pokémon GO: How to evolve Sylveon

Sylveon is the Fairy-type evolution of Eevee and a very strong monster for PvP battles. To evolve it, you need to make the corresponding Eevee your Pokémon buddy in Pokémon GO – this is easily done via your profile.

After that, you need to earn 70 hearts with this buddy Eevee by feeding it, walking with it, and playing with it. Once that’s done, you can trigger the evolution button for Sylveon – just to be safe, don’t release Eevee from its buddy role beforehand.

Pokémon GO: How to evolve Leafeon and Glaceon

The Gen 4 evolutions Leafeon (Grass) and Glaceon (Ice) can be evolved specifically by using Lure Modules at PokéStops. To do this, you need a Moss Lure Module for Leafeon and a Glacier Lure Module for Glaceon. These can be purchased for 200 coins in the in-app store and are sometimes available in quests.

Once you have the right module, go to a PokéStop without a currently active Lure and attach it there. Once the module is active, the outline on the Eevee evolution button should show the corresponding Pokémon. If it doesn’t, you’ll need to get closer to the PokéStop. If the correct monster is visible, you can tap the button and perform the evolution.

Pokémon GO: How to evolve Umbreon and Espeon

Pokemon Go Season of Heritage Ruin

You can also specifically evolve the Gen 2 evolutions Umbreon (Dark) and Espeon (Psychic) from Eevee. To do this, you must first make the Eevee in question your buddy, just as with the Sylveon evolution. Once that’s done, you’ll have to walk ten kilometres with it, collecting two candies along the way. Important note: Don’t relieve Eevee of the role of buddy after that, it must hold this position when you evolve it for the method to work.

If your Eevee has met the above conditions, it can evolve into Espeon during the day, and Umbreon at night. Wait until the lighting in the game clearly shows whichever time you need to achieve the desired result.

The evolution tricks for Sylveon, Leafeon, Glaceon, Umbreon, and Espeon can be used infinitely, unlike the name trick.
