UPDATE - THURSDAY, JAN. 6 - WEATHER ALERT | Travel-impacting snow to snarl Friday morning commute
Another Weather Alert is up for Thursday night into early Friday morning for one more round of accumulating, travel-impacting snowfall to wrap up the week.
A Winter Weather Advisory is posted for almost the entire state. For the Baltimore metro and areas south, this will be in effect from 9 p.m. Thursday night through 5 a.m. Friday morning. Garrett County is the lone county in Maryland under a Winter Storm Warming. This is where the highest snowfall totals are expected.
The track of this winter weather-maker will similar to Monday morning's system as a low pressure system moves south of the region tonight.
Snow will first move into western Maryland this afternoon before spreading across the rest of the state hours later. Snow will reach Baltimore between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. It will reach parts of the Eastern Shore closer to midnight.
Unlike Monday's snowfall event where most of the snowfall was concentrated south of Baltimore, there will be more widespread snowfall totals. Areas north of the city could see 2-4". Baltimore and areas east and south could see 3-5", but isolated higher amounts are possible.
In terms of timing, expect the snow to begin falling at about 9 PM Thursday evening and then taper shortly before the Friday morning commute, according to our Futurescan Computer Model. With snow still on the ground early Friday morning, roads could be hazardous during the morning rush.
By Friday afternoon, skies will be sunny, but temperatures will only be in the low to mid 30s. Saturday will be another cool and dry day before the next weather-maker arrives on Sunday.
