CES 2022 | Lenovo ThinkBook 14 G4+ and ThinkBook 16 G4+ herald advent of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2050

We have seen Lenovo previously offer the ThinkBook 14 G3 powered by AMD Ryzen 5000-U processors along with a few other ThinkBook variants such as the ThinkBook 14p and ThinkBook 16p Gen 2. Today, at CES 2022, Lenovo is introducing two new ThinkBooks aimed at mainstream productivity — the ThinkBook 14 G4+ and the ThinkBook 16 G4+. The new ThinkBooks offer slimmer designs, better internals and display options, and improved sensor-based security features.

The ThinkBook G4+ Series also offers several sensor-based functionalities such an ambient light sensor and a Time of Flight (ToF) sensor that works together with the IR camera to detect user presence and to login or lock the system automatically. Other device protection features include an fTPM, I/O port access control, self-healing BIOS, HDD password, Secure Wipe, and a Kensington NanoSaver lock slot.

Lenovo ThinkBook 14 G4+

The Lenovo ThinkBook 14 G4+ is designed to cater to the modern hybrid workspace crowd with an Arctic Grey three-sided aluminum chassis. The power button and the touchpad sport a CNC diamond cut for a premium look. The ThinkBook 14 G4+ is about 15.9 mm thick and weighs 1.4 kg. Lenovo said that the assessment for MIL-STD 810H is still pending.

The ThinkBook 14 G4+ is powered by the latest Intel 12th gen Alder Lake-H processors paired with up to 32 GB of LPDDR5 memory. This year's ThinkBook 14 G4+ is also the first laptop launch we've seen featuring the new Nvidia GeForce RTX 2050 Laptop GPU. The RTX 2050 supports 4 GB of GDDR6 RAM and can be configured up to a 45 W TGP and a boost clock of 1,477 MHz. A dual-fan design helps keeps the internal components cool. There is provision for adding up to two M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen 4 SSDs up to 2 TB. 

Lenovo offers several 14-inch 16:10 IPS display choices for the ThinkBook 14 G4+. Buyers can choose from among 2.8K (2880x1800) 90 Hz 400 nits 100% sRGB, 2.2K (2240x1400) 300 nits 100% sRGB, and WUXGA (1920x1200) 300 nits display options. Except for the WUXGA panel, all other options have hardware-controlled low blue light emission technology.

Networking includes both wired and wireless Wi-Fi 6E connectivity with Bluetooth 5. A Thunderbolt 4 port is available alongside a bevy of other USB port types and a 3-in-1 card reader. Options of 46.5 Whr and 62 Whr battery capacities are offered depending on the configuration. Both support Lenovo RapidCharge fast charging.

The Lenovo ThinkBook 14 G4+ will be available from April starting from US$839.

Lenovo ThinkBook 16 G4+

The ThinkBook 16 G4+ takes things up a notch with a larger 16-inch 16:10 IPS display. The internal specifications are largely the same as that of the ThinkBook 14 G4+ including options of Alder Lake-H45 processors, Nvidia RTX 2050 discrete graphics, and up to 32 GB of LPDDR5 RAM. While the overall thickness remains the same, the chassis weight is higher at 1.82 kg. MIL-STD 810H assessment is pending.

The ThinkBook 16 G4+ does not offer a 2.8K display option like its 14-inch sibling. Instead, it offers a choice between 2.5K (2560x1600) 120 Hz 350 nits 100% sRGB color-calibrated, 2.5K 350 nits 100% sRGB, and WUXGA (1920x1200) 300 nits display options. Once again, the blue light emissions in the WUXGA panel are software-controlled unlike the 2.5K variants that offer hardware-based control.

Networking and port selection is the same as that of the ThinkBook 14 G4+. A neat addition is the presence of a 4-in-1 card reader that also takes MMC cards. The battery capacities are also higher at 57 Whr and 71 Whr depending on the configuration.

The Lenovo ThinkBook G4+ will be available from April starting from US$859.
