Gal Gadot Gives Update on Wonder Woman Sequel

Although it is not set to go in front of the cameras quite yet, star Gal Gadot has let fans know that Wonder Woman 3 is doing well in its early development.

When Gal Gadot starred in the 2017 action-packed blockbuster, Wonder Woman, DC fans (and just about everyone else) were in awe of just how great the movie was. Director Patty Jenkins (2003’s Monster) had a lot to do with the success of the 2017 film but without Gadot’s terrific turn in the title role, the film simply would not have worked. Now, Gadot has let her fans know that the upcoming third film in the Wonder Woman franchise is going well in its development and will probably start shooting sometime in 2023.

In a recent InStyle interview, Gadot also revealed that the script for the new sequel is currently being written as well. This third film in the series was given an official “go” at the tail end of last year. It is also great news for many to learn that director Patty Jenkins will be returning for the third picture as well. Some people gave Jenkins a hard time over the script she co-wrote for Wonder Woman 1984 but many of those people are nevertheless excited to see Jenkins going back behind the camera for another picture in the wildly popular franchise.

Lynda Carter, the original “Wonder Woman” will also be on board the upcoming sequel as well. There are obviously some terrific ideas going on here and audiences are in great anticipation to see how these ideas will be developed. No plot has been officially revealed at this time, however.

Wonder Woman 1984 didn’t follow the same pattern the 2017 original film displayed at the box-office. The second film in the series was buoyed by problems regarding COVID-19 which hurt its theatrical box-office performance not to mention the fact that the film also premiered on HBO Max at the same time it played in the theaters. It’s debatable whether or not that helped the film find a larger audience. Gadot and Jenkins were said to be paid a nice sum of money despite the fact that the movie didn’t get an exclusive theatrical release. It may be best to start again and see what happens with the new picture. After all, the third time’s usually a charm.

Gal Gadot has mentioned that she doesn’t want to take the new Wonder Woman back to the past anymore because she would rather move forward with the material. That makes sense since going back to 1984 didn’t make the second Wonder Woman film overly popular although it certainly had some devout fans.

Gal Gadot is featured in the new forthcoming Kenneth Branagh film coming out February 11th of this year. It’s a thriller from acclaimed director Branagh (reminding Oscar voters to choose Belfast for Best Picture) and is called Death on the Nile. It is based on an Agatha Christie story line. With Gadot on board, expect that film to find a sizable audience to be sure.
