If you’re wondering how things will go when Law & Order: SVU‘s Det. Amanda Rollins comes face-to-face with Capt. Declan Murphy after all this time… have we got a sneak peek for you.
The procedural’s winter premiere, airing Thursday at 9/8c (NBC), heralds the return of Donal Logue as Murphy. In Seasons 15-17, Murphy was an undercover officer who became romantically involved with Kelli Giddish’s Rollins; though they didn’t last as a couple, he is the father of Rollins’ elder daughter, Jesse.
In the exclusive clip above, Rollins, Benson and Fin are brought into the fold by Chief McGrath, who announces that SVU will assist Murphy’s team with a rash of recent, seemingly coordinated hate crimes. But Declan won’t be the only face familiar to faithful viewers: Sgt. Hasim Khaldun (played by Ari’el Stachel), who helped SVU out in Seasons 21 and 22, and Det. Mia Ruz (Cyndee Rivera), whom we met when she was working at Bronx SVU under Criminal Intent alum Carolyn Barek.
Benson & Co. also meet another member of the Hate Crimes task force who should look familiar: He’s played by Jason Biggs (the American Pie films, Orange Is the New Black).
Press PLAY on the video at the top of the post to see Murphy back in action — and to see Rollins’ reaction — then hit the comments with your thoughts!
Is this episode looking like as a backdoor pilot for that scrapped Hates Crimes?
I hope so. I wasn’t into the idea of another Law and Order series until I got suckered into OC simply because Stabler was on it. If this is how they introduce HC then I’m in. Declan was always a good foil to Olivia in a good way always telling her to ‘think bigger’ when it came to traffickers.
The one that was scrapped because of Jussie Smollett and the Covington high school “racist”hoax
I don’t think it was scrapped – just delayed.
It was my understanding that there was concern about the NBC censors and they were waiting until they had a place the show go without broadcast/network censorship. Conveniently, NBC Universal has that now: a streaming service.
Yeah, last I heard it was still a contender for Peacock and so I was wondering if this might be used to help launch such a series there too.
If this is how they introduce HC then I’m in. Donal Logue has had experience with shows as prominent characters from Gotham to Vikings and I can see him as the head honcho of his own unit he’s proven he’s a capable leader during his stint as acting CO of SVU. Hasim was one of the few memorable guest characters he has his own way of doing things but when thinks get bad he’ll have your back. Ruz however I am skeptical when her boss was revealed to be a serial rapist she didn’t seem to be concerned only that him getting arrested costed her promotions up the ranks if she is still the same pill as before then I hope she leaves but Declan and Hasim I can see a show with them.
Huge fan of Donal Logue/Capt. Declan Murphy and have actually never had an issue with any SVU casting. Until now. Jason Biggs grates on my every last nerve so he will have to be exemplary to win me over!
Donal Logue always puts in a good performance, so I’m pleased with this casting.
I adore Murphy and actor that brings him to life !!! Huge. Draw win win for Law & Order Bringing him back great history !!!!!
I love the Declan Murphy role
