Defense counsel for Ghislaine Maxwell, a close confidant to Jeffrey Epstein who was found guilty last week of sex trafficking, say the former socialite should receive a new trial after one of the jurors revealed to news outlets that his own experience as a survivor of sexual abuse influenced his vote to convict.

According to filings submitted Wednesday to U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan of the Southern District of New York, who presided over the trial, one of the jurors said in a media interview with Reuters that he “flew through” the prospective jury questionnaire and does not recall being asked whether or not he was asked if he had been a victim of sexual abuse.
