Sci Fi TV Update: Lost in Space Tops the Nielsen Streaming Rankings, The Silent Sea Improves, and More

Nielsen Streaming Top 10:

Netflix’s Lost in Space took the top spot on the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 for the week of November 29th to December 5th. The third and final season of that reboot series premiered that week and pulled in an estimated 1.2 billion minutes of viewing. Disney+’s Hawkeye slipped one slot to Number 3 for its second week, pulling in 560 million minutes of viewing. And Amazon’s The Wheel of Time slipped one slot to Number 4 pulling in 537 million minutes of viewing. For acquired shows, Supernatural held at Number 6 with 352 million minutes of viewing for the week. Following are all the sci fi and fantasy TV shows on the streaming charts for the week (the number in parenthesis is the prior week rank):

Netflix Streaming Top 10:

Netflix’s Korean space exploration drama The Silent Sea nearly doubled its viewership in its second week and took the Number 1 slot in that streamer’s Top 10 for Non-English Language TV shows. It wracked up 47.8 million hours viewed for the week of December 27th to January 1st. In the English Language Top 10, The Witcher Season 2 slipped one slot to Number 2 while pulling in 94.3 million hours of viewing. And Season 1 of that show slipped to Number 4 with 42.3 million hours viewed. Following are all the sci fi and fantasy TV shows on the Netflix charts for the week (the number in parenthesis is the prior week rank):

Ratings Results of Interest:

The Doctor Who New Year’s Special episode posted a 0.10 rating based on same-day viewing for the 18-49 demographic with 422K total viewers for its premiere at 2 PM EST on Saturday.  The numbers for that show have been on the lower side in its 13th season, but plans are still moving forward for a 14th season with a new actor in the lead role.  On Adult Swim, Blade Runner: Black Lotus improved a tick to a 0.09 rating with 175K total viewers.  A second season remains a possibility for that one.

Sci Fi TV Schedule:

Mid-Season ramps up quickly next week with several Sci Fi TV shows premiering as well as a couple more returning to the schedule.  On Tuesday, Superman & Lois will have its Season 2 premiere on The CW followed immediately by the premiere of the new Arrow-verse entry Naomi.  On Thusday, Peacemaker arrives on HBO Max with the first episode of that superhero series available for streaming that day.  On Sunday, The CW’s horror anthology Two Sentence Horror Stories will have its Season 3 premiere.  And over on EPIX, the third season of the fantasy epic Britannia will have its bow on that cable net.  The CW’s Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman return from hiatus on Wednesday.  More shows are on the way and you can see the full Mid-Season schedule at this link.
