Stan sure has been getting some big name stars in their original productions recently. Following on from Jamie Dornan and Zac Efron are Isla Fisher and Josh Gad, who lead the cast of the original series Wolf Like Me.

The dark drama is written and directed by Abe Forsythe (Down Under, Little Monsters) and was inspired by his personal experience of searching for love as a single parent.

The premise starts out as pretty standard romcom fare – man meets woman, friendship turns into romance – but things soon unravel. Fisher (Wedding Crashers, Arrested Development) and Gad (Frozen, Beauty and the Beast) play Josh and Mary, a fledgling couple who each bring their own baggage to the relationship. One of them in particular is holding a very big secret.

When Mary finds her life colliding with that of Gary and his 11 year old daughter Emma, all the signs seem to be telling her they’re meant to be a part of each other’s lives. As their connection depends, though, Mary and Gary worry their respective baggage will soon tear them apart.

As hinted at by the show’s title, Wolf Like Me is genre-bending, with a little horror and sci-fi thrown into the dramatic mix. Forsythe previously directed the 2019 Lupita Nyong’o film Little Monsters, which also combined various genre elements (zombie horror and comedy) successfully (Gad actually starred in that film too).

And judging by the explosive end of the trailer (see below), this is going to be one to keep watching right until the finale. Is Mary maybe a werewolf? You’ll have to tune in to find out. Wolf Like Me is set to premiere on Stan on Thursday, January 13th, with all six episodes available at the same time.
