Nokia Isn't Holding Back On Budget 5G, 4G Handsets For CES 2022

CES 2022 is now officially underway and HMD Global is bringing no fewer than five new Nokia handsets to bear — four with 4G and another bringing budget 5G connectivity.

Now, one of the biggest Nokia-related announcements for CES 2022 is arguably the unveiling of the 5G-ready Nokia G400. Primarily because that handset comes in at well under $250 but packs 5G support. But HMD Global is bringing far more to the table for those in need of something even more affordable. Including three new 4G Android handsets and an additional “Originals” feature phone running the smartphone-like KaiOS.

The new run of handsets includes the Nokia C100, C200, and G100. While the Nokia 2760 Flip brings a traditional flip-phone form factor and KaiOS for apps. All four of the incoming 4G phones come with an MSRP of under $150.

How are these CES 2022-announced Nokia handsets similar and how are they different?

The most different of the devices is, of course, the Nokia 2760 Flip. And that’s not just because it’s a flip phone. It’s also not running Android. Instead running an Android-like but touchless operating system dubbed KaiOS. The remaining handsets all run Android 12 out-of-the-box.

At the most budget-friendly end of the spectrum for CES 2022, aside from the Nokia 2760 Flip, are the Nokia C100 and C200. Both handsets are powered by the MediaTek Helio A22 SoC. And the Nokia C200 is slightly larger at 6.1-inches. However, otherwise, these two handsets are effectively the same. At least, that’s as of this announcement, with more details to be unveiled closer to launch. Each comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage with a 4,000mAh battery.

The Nokia G100, conversely, takes the display up to 6.5-inches with an HD+ resolution. That’s coupled with a triple-camera set up around the back and an octa-core Qualcomm chipset. Namely, the Snapdragon 615. A power-button-mounted fingerprint sensor is part of the package as well. With a 5,000mAh battery powering the package.

Finally, the Nokia G400 is the company’s most affordable, but still somewhat premium 5G handset to date. As of this writing, like the other Nokia CES 2022 announcements, not all of the details about this handset are known. But what Nokia has divulged is that the Nokia G400 comes with a 120Hz refresh rate on the display. And that it comes with a triple-camera led by a 48-megapixel primary snapper. That’s coupled with an ultra-wide and macro lens.

In terms of power, the Nokia G400 packs an efficient but powerful Snapdragon 480 5G SoC. And that’s coupled with 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage.

Pricing and availability

For pricing and availability, HMD Global says the Nokia 2760 Flip and C100 will land first, priced at just $79 and $99. Those will arrive in Q1 2022. The Nokia C200, G100, and G400, conversely, will appear in Q2 2022. And pricing for those will be set at $119, $149, and just $239, respectively.
