One of the world’s most popular action RPG titles is about to be updated with new content, and Genshin Impact Update 2.4 promises to be a big one. The world of Genshin gets a little bigger this week with the release date of the new expansion, called “Fleeting Colors In Flight”.

Genshin 2.4 was revealed at a recent livestream event packed with new codes and features new characters to unlock and new areas to explore on the map. It also means server maintenance before everything starts and a new download waiting for those who sign up on release day.

Developers Mihoyo have confirmed that beneath the still waters around Watatsumi Island lies a new realm that has been shut down for thousands of years. Enkanomiya is a huge floating island under the ocean, devoid of the normal day and night cycle until the rise of an ancient civilization brought with it the creation of an artificial sun, Dainichi Mikoshi.

Adding to the mystery, a message from the Genshin team tells fans: “Clues to this lost civilization are buried in the ruins of the city’s abandoned library, shrines, laboratory and remains. As you dive into the depths of Enkanomiya, the transition between day and night by Dainichi Mikoshi is the key to solving many puzzles. Also watch out for Bathysmal Vishaps and the new Abyss Lector on your quest.

“Bathysmal Vishaps are extremely dangerous predators that live in the dark waters. Pack members hunt together and can take advantage of their environment in combat. The Abyss Lector: Fathomless Flames can unleash Pyro attacks that deal delayed bursts of damage, regardless of whether characters are shielded or not.

WHEN DOES GENSHIN IMPACT 2.4 BANNER START?

Mihoyo has confirmed that the release date of Genshin Impact 2.4 has been set for Thursday, January 6 at 3am GMT in the UK.

Due to the time difference, gamers in North America will begin playing on January 5 at 7:00 PM PT.

And before the new update can be downloaded and installed, there will be a period of downtime for the game’s servers.

Mihoyo has confirmed that Genshin Impact maintenance will begin on January 5 at approximately 10pm GMT and will last for five hours.

This means that the game will not be playable on PS4, PS5, Mobile and PC platforms until maintenance is complete.

WHAT’S IN THE NEW GENSHIN BANNER?

And just like in the past, Mihoyo plans to introduce new characters to the game while also boosting the rank with former recruits.

Mihoyo will kick off Update 2.4 with a new banner featuring Shenhe and Yun Jin, which will likely be accompanied by returning favorites.

Shenhe is a five-star character who wields the power of Cryo and a polar arm. She can summon a Talisman Spirit and play the role of support.

The good news is that both Shenhe’s Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst can help her party deal more Cryo damage, opening up a lot of multiplier possibilities.

Meanwhile, Yun Jin will be the four-star character that can be unlocked alongside Shehe.

Yun Jin is a Geo-polearm user designed to support players who prefer normal attacks. Her Elemental Skill can protect and charge herself for a more powerful attack, while her Elemental Burst will cause AoE Geo DMG and give all nearby teammates a Flying Cloud Flag Formation.

Mihoyo also confirmed that Shenhe and Yun Jin will be available in the first Event Wish, which coincides with Xiao’s Event Wish.
