Bruce Teague re-elected Iowa City mayor, Alter elected mayor pro tem

Bruce Teague has been re-elected as Iowa City’s mayor.

Teague was unanimously re-elected to another two-year term at the first meeting of the new city council on Tuesday morning. Newly-elected councilor Megan Alter was unanimously chosen as mayor pro tem.

Teague was first elected to the council during a special election in 2018, and was voted mayor by the council in 2020. Alter was elected to the council in November 2021. Both Teague and Alter were sworn in as councilors at separate ceremonies on Dec. 15th.

In Iowa City, the mayor and mayor pro tem are determined by the city council. Teague and Alter’s terms will continue until January 2nd, 2024.
