Someone Once Found This Breaded Organ In A KFC Meal

Every once in a while, we see stories on the news about someone finding something really gross in their fast food: dead insects, used bandages, fingernails, and so on. A lot of these incidents stem from employee accidents, like when one Arby's worker got her finger caught in a meat slicer — the finger eventually ended up in someone's sandwich (via HuffPost).

However, some incidents can be traced back to supplier mistakes. For example, back in 2017, a couple of dead bats were found in packaged salads. While restaurant employees arguably should give products a quick glance-over for quality, it's not always possible to do so during a rush. No one has time to inspect every piece of chicken, every burger patty, or every bun.

So sometimes customers get a surprise — bad or really bad. At least most places are pretty good about offering a refund if your meal contains a little something extra, right?

Not everyone's favorite piece of chicken

One customer at an Australian KFC got a bit more than he ordered. According to Insider, the customer received his chicken meal, only to discover that one of the pieces was actually a breaded chicken heart. Kind of gross, especially if you aren't expecting it.

Although plenty of people enjoy eating chicken hearts – Healthline notes that chicken hearts are highly nutritious and a great source of protein — organ meat definitely isn't for everyone. Even some celebrity chefs struggle with organ meat. Livers and hearts are still meat, but ... well, they just aren't quite the same.

Fortunately for the KFC customer, his complaint earned him a full refund and a heartfelt apology (too soon?). KFC issued a public statement to assure customers the chain's "chicken is hand-prepared and cooked fresh, but occasionally mistakes happen and organs are not removed when they should have been. We ... are reminding our teams to take extra care."
