JAY-Z made it clear last month he doesn’t think any rapper could hold their own against him in a Verzuz battle, but clearly Kodak Black missed the memo.

On Monday (January 3), the eccentric Florida rapper threw down the gauntlet and issued a public Verzuz challenge to Hov on Twitter, but his proposal comes with specific terms.

“I’ll do a versus wit Jay Z,” he wrote. “‘IF’ he win he get 15 % of my catalog!” If Kodak were to win, however, he wants a high-level job at JAY-Z’s label. “I win he make me Vice President of roc nation,” he added.

Needless to say, Kodak Black’s tweet caused plenty of chatter online, with a horde of fans flooding his replies with their incredulous reactions.

“JAY-Z?? as in Hov, Jigga, Iceberg Slim, S. Carter, The God MC…THAT JAY-Z???” one user replied along with a Michael Jordan reaction photo, while another chimed in with a clip of Morgan Freeman’s character from 1989’s Lean On Me admonishing a young boy for smoking crack.

Even Verzuz co-founder Timbaland weighed in on the debate, leaving four crying face emojis in the comments section of Akademiks’ Instagram post.

The consensus wasn’t totally one-sided, though, with a small chorus of fans putting their money on Kodak Black’s catalog.

“It’s not one jay song i know word for word.. Snooze Fest,” one fan wrote, while another added, “Jay Z’s best album was reasonable doubt. All his other albums were pop culture fodder.”

Kodak Black isn’t the only rapper who wants to take on JAY-Z in the Verzuz arena. Snoop Dogg, T.I., Rick Ross, Busta Rhymes and Juvenile have all floated the idea of battling Hov, while a recent Instagram post from Future suggests he believes he can beat the Marcy Projects mogul.

Future Reacts To JAY-Z's Zero Competition Verzuz Claim

Despite the abundance of willing opponents and his longstanding relationship with Verzuz visionaries Swizz Beatz and Timbaland, it’s unlikely rap fans will ever get to see JAY-Z step into the Verzuz ring.

“No one can stand on that stage with me,” Hov asserted during a Twitter Spaces conference promoting Alicia Keys’ KEYS album in December. “It’s not a chance in hell that anyone can stand on that stage with me. You gotta stand in front of the ‘Grammy Family’ freestyle live?”
