The Bloomington band Beltalowda is set to release a new album, “The Days That Are Given And The Ways We Live Them,” on Jan. 7. The post-punk album features Mat Alano-Martin on guitar and vocals, JD Short on bass and Dagan Thogerson on drums.

It will be released on the band’s Bandcamp page. Purchasing the album includes immediate access to the digital album and a vinyl, which will be shipped in December 2022. 50% of sales will be donated to a social justice cause.

The album is inspired by Alano-Martin’s experience during 2021, where he lost several people: his mother, as well as a former lover and a former musical collaborator, according to a Beltalowda press release.

“In a lot of ways ‘The Days…’ is an album about death, but it is also about the obligations of the living," Alano-Martin said. "To be of service, to take care of one another, both in our personal day-to-day lives and in a society as a whole."

Short led production on the album, which varies in style from dance punk, grunge and “midwest emo,” among others. The lead single, “Red Sky Ash,” features guest William Elliott Whitmore, a blues and folk singer.
