4 obvious reasons. 1. you don't clean it. 2. you changed the type of litter 3. you changed the location 4. probably the most important of all you got, adopted a new kitty. Just posting from experience.

Our cat did that and my wife finally said let’s take him to the vet because in the ten or so years we had him he never not used the litter box. Found out he had some kind of infection and we summed up that was his way of letting us know something was wrong. We had him for seventeen years.
