Parker girls rally falls short in loss to Kenosha St. Joseph

A late rally fell short for the Janesville Parker girls basketball team Thursday.

The Vikings cut a double-digit deficit to three with five minutes left but could not make it all the way back in a 48-30 loss to Kenosha St. Joseph at the Go Sports America Tournament at Carthage College.

A slew of turnovers the final five minutes doomed the Vikings.

“There weren’t a lot of positives in yesterday’s loss to Union Grove, but we were much better today,” Parker first-year coach Ryan Tyrrell said. “If our point guard (Alyssa Ayers) doesn’t get hurt early in the game, we had a chance to win this one.

“As it was, we got it down to three in the second half but then reverted back to some bad habits by turning the ball over.”

Parker (1-10) got 13 points from Addison Miller in losing its sixth straight.

St. Joseph (6-4) won despite missing 14 free throws.

Parker plays at Middleton in a Big Eight Conference game on Thursday.
