N ew York City Mayor-elect Eric Adams said during a Thursday address that someone should make a T-shirt that reads "vaccine and testing."

During a press conference in Brooklyn Borough Hall, Adams presented his COVID-19 response agenda to reporters.

“The science will ensure that we can effectively deal with this COVID surge," Adams said. "This is going to provide updated rules and guidance on COVID based on the latest recommendations that we are receiving from all information that is happening globally."

"Our focus is vaccine and testing. Vaccine and testing. Vaccine and testing. We must say that over and over again. Someone needs to make a T-shirt and a cap that says 'vaccine and testing .' This is the clear message, we must get out. It is our most potent weapon, as I say over and over again," he continued.

Adams also announced that he intends to keep in place Mayor Bill de Blasio's private sector vaccine mandate that took effect Monday with an emphasis on "compliance, not punishment.”

“The goal is to be cooperative and not punitive,” Adams said.

As New York faces a COVID-19 surge, along with the rest of the country, Adams acknowledged he is stepping into office at a crucial point. He will assume the role of mayor just after midnight Saturday.
