PHOTO: Car Smashes Into San Diego's Seaport Village Sign

Police have launched a search for a driver who crashed a car into the Seaport Village sign and fled on foot, according to KGTV.

The incident occurred around 12:45 A.M. on Thursday, December 30. San Diego Harbor Police and San Diego Police were called to Seaport Village off Harbor Drive to respond to a crash involving a single vehicle.

When the officers arrived they found Seaport Village's large welcome sign knocked down as well as smashed plants and rocks, and damage to exit gates.

The white car responsible for the destruction was found nearby but the driver was nowhere to be found.

The car sustained damage to its front a part of the bumper was found several feet away, according to KGTV.

Officers did see a female passenger inside the vehicle. She was taken to the hospital, but the severity of her injuries is unknown.

According to KGTV, the driver may have been injured in the crash but a description of them was not immediately released.
