NEWSNew Mom Bindi Irwin Opens Up About 'Difficult' Year Amid On-Going Pandemic, Praises Her 'Champion' Mother Terri Irwin For Her 'Leadership'
Bindi Irwin has opened up about how she and her family have navigated the most "difficult" time since her dad, Steve Irwin's, 2006 death.
“It has probably been the hardest time in our lives other than when dad passed away,” Bindi told the outlet. “For us it’s been difficult [because] Australia Zoo has over a thousand animals. We literally can’t ever close.”
Due to the new mom — who gave birth to daughter Grace Warrior Irwin Powell with husband Chandler Powell in March — and her family having to be locked down for 78 days, taking care of the zoo animals became quite the challenge.
“We still had to feed all our animals, do checkups,” Bindi said of keeping the zoo operating. “It’s as if we were still open, but without any visitors.”
Luckily, her mother and "champion" Terri Irwin was with her every step of the way. “I don’t know what we would have done without her," the Dancing With The Stars alum stated. “Her leadership has been phenomenal."
After Bindi gave birth to her little girl, the proud grandma, 57, told the outlet that her late grandfather would have adored her. “First of all, we would never see Grace. He would just be out showing her everything,” Terri said.
“He was completely captivated by his kids, and I know he’d be an amazing grandfather and absolutely in love with Grace. We all are," the mother-of-two explained.
The family is currently gearing up for Season 4 of their hit show Crikey! It’s the Irwins on Animal Planet which will premiere on January 1. Bindi's brother Robert Irwin revealed that this upcoming season is filled with highs and lows.
“Of course, the biggest part of Season 4 is the arrival of baby Grace,” the new uncle, 18, said. “I feel like the proudest uncle in the world.”
“Getting to take everyone on the journey of Bindi being pregnant and then, of course, the arrival of Grace – which was dramatic and exciting and wonderful," Robert detailed. "Apart from that, there are some incredible wildlife stories.”
Despite the year of obstecles, Bindi explained that she has been looking towards the good in life: "You have to choose to rise, and continue to do what you love, and that’s kind of the road that I’ve decided to take."
