Tornadoes touch down across South Georgia Thursday afternoon

(WTXL) — Multiple tornadoes touched down across Colquitt, Berrien and Cook counties Thursday afternoon, causing damage to multiple structures and residences.

At 3:05 p.m., the National Weather Service issued a Tornado Warning for parts of Colquitt County. According to first responders, the area of Culbertson Road sustained heavy damage with debris being strung across the road.

NWS also confirmed that three homes in the area south of Spence Field were damaged as well. The tornado warning for Colquitt County ended at 3:45 p.m.

At 4:01 p.m., NWS issued a tornado warning for parts of Cook and Berrien counties. NWS also confirmed that there was structural damage in eastern Cook County, just west of State Road 76.

NWS allowed the tornado warning for Cook and Berrien counties to expire at 4:45 p.m.

In Moultrie, damage down Culbertson road ranges from downed trees and limbs to downed power lines and debris scattered across open fields.

"In that minute, everything came down, my back porch is gone, everything is gone," said Karla Martinez who lives off of Culbertson. "Just like this really big wave of wind and rain, just like going and crashing metal, it just sounded really horrible."

4:00 p.m. UPDATE: The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Warning for parts of Cook and Berrien counties until 4:45 p.m.

NWS says that there is a population of more than 21,000 people in the warning area. The radar indicated tornado was first alerted at 4:01 p.m.

Seek shelter immediately if you are in the area.


3:45 p.m. UPDATE:

The Tornado Warning issued for parts of Colquitt County, Ga. has expired, according to the National Weather Service.


The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Warning for parts of Colquitt County.

NWS says that there is a population of more than 26,000 people in the warning area. The radar indicated tornado was first alerted at 3:05 p.m.

Seek shelter immediately if you are in the area. The warning is active until 3:45 p.m. eastern time.

NWS confirmed that there was a tornado on the ground south of Spence Field at 3:19 p.m. that caused damage to three residences in the area.
