Christopher Jullien’s long-term injury has been one of Celtic’s biggest problems in recent times and has left them a man in short in the heart of their defence. The Frenchman had picked up the problem last season and it was originally believed that he could be out of action for around four months. It is safe to say that it has been much longer than that and he will finish 2021 without making a single appearance for the Hoops.

Many believe that Jullien is the best defender at Celtic right now. And although that is debatable, it does not matter when he has not been available for such a long time.

There have been several occasions when it has been believed that he is closing in on a return but then, it has not happened as he has seemingly suffered setbacks during his recovery.

There has been silence around the Celtic defender for a while recently but now, it looks like he could actually be close to making a comeback. As reported by Sky Sports, Ange Postecoglou said:

"“He’s had a couple of little setbacks but we are hoping now that he’s at a point where he’s ready to train fully with the team and make himself available. He’ll be a great addition.“He’s a good player, he’s very commanding, he’s very confident in himself. So we will get him involved and I’m sure he can add to us.”"

Celtic finally have an injury update on Jullien

Jullien returning would be a huge boost for Celtic. This season, they have had Carl Starfelt, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Stephen Welsh as options in the heart of their defence. Nir Bitton is also capable of playing as a centre-back but it is not exactly a role where he has shined.

Starfelt’s form has blown hot and cold. Carter-Vickers has been solid but he is only on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur. And Welsh just does not look ready to be a regular starter for Celtic yet.

Thus, Postecoglou could certainly do with someone like Jullien available. It will be very interesting to see though, how he performs when he does eventually make his return to the pitch, after more than a year out of action.
