The University of Pittsburgh announced Thursday its response to the surge of COVID-19 cases in Western Pennsylvania as it relates to its upcoming Spring semester in 2022.
University leaders implemented a staggered housing return for all students that live in on-campus building. Arrival dates begin on January 8 and continue until January 22.
In addition to the staggered return to on-campus living, new procedures and policies were put into place, including a university-wide shelter-in-place policy and increased rate of COVID-19 testing.
For all Pitt students leaving campus, one COVID-19 test will be made available. It is not mandatory, but it is recommended for those who are vaccinated. Unvaccinated students living on campus are required to turn in a negative COVID test prior to returning to school housing.
As for returning students beginning on January 8, a COVID-19 test is required after arriving on campus.
Students are recommended to not go to class until receiving a negative COVID-19 test result.
Pitt’s new university-wide shelter-in-place policy starts on January 8 for all students in university housing. The specific details can be found here.
At this time, the shelter-in-place is set to go through at least January 26.
