ND PSC approves wind farm decommission plan

By Doug Barrett Dec 30, 2021 | 8:53 AM

Public Service Commissioners have approved a new decommissioning plan for the Tatanka Wind Farm in Dickey County.

The North Dakota PSC had earlier approved a plan for the turbines to be removed, using cranes. But Commissioner Randy Christmann says Tatanka has now proposed a lower-cost method by cutting them down.

The new plan would cost $9.5 million. The existing plan carried a $15.7 million price tag.

Christmann opposed making the change, partly because of concerns over costs – and he says the Commission wasn’t given a lot of information about this method.

But the other two commissioners voted for the change.

Commission chairman Julie Fedorchak says to deny this plan would discourage innovation.
