Top Plays: Auburn, Air Force, Texas Tech and Minnesota in bowl action

Bowl season in college football rolled along with a jam-packed slate of action on Tuesday.

There were five bowls scheduled for an action-packed day, though one of them — the Holiday Bowl between UCLA and NC State — was canceled.

Still, there were plenty of great moments to take in.

Here are the top plays from each bowl!

Guaranteed Rate BowlMinnesota 18, West Virginia 6

A BIG touchdown

It's not often an offensive lineman gets the chance to score, but that was the case when Daniel Faalele scored a touchdown for Minnesota.

Minnesota tacked on one more touchdown and a field goal to beat WVU, 18-6.

Liberty BowlTexas Tech 34, Mississippi State 7

An ounce of daylight

That's all Texas Tech running back Tahj Brooks needed to score and give the Red Raiders a 7-0 lead.

Pitch and catch

This touchdown from Mississippi State quarterback to Will Rogers to Rara Thomas is an example of both the QB and wide receiver having supreme chemistry.

Smith Show

Texas Tech found the running game to be an efficient scoring blueprint, scoring its second touchdown on a rushing touchdown from Donovan Smith.

His passing touchdown at the of the third quarter gave Texas Tech a 27-2 lead heading into the fourth.

The rout is on

Texas Tech got whatever they wanted against Mississippi State, with SaRodorick Thompson scoring to give the Red Raiders a 34-7 lead.

Texas Tech would cruise from there to a 34-7 victory.

First Responder BowlAir Force 31, Louisville 28

Striking first

Air Force QB Haaziq Daniels found the end zone right before the first quarter ended to give the Falcons a 7-0 lead.

Putting the air in Air Force

Daniels' first two completions went for a combined 101 yards, one of which was a 61-yard touchdown to Brandon Lewis.

That put Air Force ahead 14-0.

Staying cool

The 14-0 deficit didn't deter Louisville, with the Cardinals responding behind a Trevion Cooley rushing touchdown to cut the deficit in half.

Run it back!

The first connection between Daniels and Lewis was so nice, they had to do it twice.

The tandem connected for a 64-yard touchdown to take a 21-7 lead.

Back-and-forth affair

Big plays were in abundance in the second quarter, with Louisville breaking off a 100-yard kickoff return.

The fourth time is a charm

Daniels owned the first half against Louisville, punching in a second rushing touchdown to give him four total TDs in the half.

Air Force carried a 28-14 lead into the break.

Bombs away

Louisville cut the Air Force lead to seven points going into the fourth quarter thanks to a 34-yard touchdown pass from Malik Cunningham to Tyler Harrell.

Though the Cardinals made it close, Air Force held on to win 31-28.

Birmingham Bowl — No. 20 Houston 17, Auburn 13

Playing a Tune

Cougars QB Clayton Tune spun away from pressure on third down to put Houston up 7-0 on its opening drive of the game.

Not a slow-moving Tank

Auburn's biggest play of the game came from a catch-and-run from running back Tank Bigsby, who took T.J. Finley's screen pass 51 yards into Cougars territory.

That play helped set Auburn up to kick a 27-yard field goal for its first points of the game.

Walk the line

Kobe Hudson was responsible for Auburn's first touchdown catch of the game, hauling in a Finley pass and tapping his toe to stay in bounds.

An incredible catch from Javarrius Johnson earlier in the drive put the Tigers in a position to strike, and Hudson delivered with a tight-rope act for the 12-yard score.

Trick and a pick

Houston tried to get creative on offense in the fourth quarter, but Tigers linebacker Chandler Wooten sniffed it out to come up with a fantastic interception.

Finishing touch

Still, the Cougars took a 17-13 lead in the fourth when Tune found Jake Herslow for a 26-yard touchdown. Auburn fans might think there was a hold on the play. Either way, that would end up being the final score.
