MCKINNEY – Lincoln County Coroner Farris Marcum responded to the scene of a fiery crash last week that claimed the life of a Casey County man.

Larry Moberly, 51, of Casey County was pronounced dead on the scene around 2 p.m. on Dec. 21.

According to Marcum, Moberly was traveling eastbound on Ky. Hwy. 698 in McKinney in a “large International commercial truck” carrying a concrete septic tank for delivery.

“The scene suggests that he eased off the roadway on the eastbound side, he overcorrected and when he overcorrected, that truck was top heavy and it kind of started swaying, I assume,” Marcum said. “Then he traveled several hundred feet and then he ran back over in the ditch where the truck eventually came to rest upside down.”

Marcum said the truck caught on fire.

A nearby homeowner came outside and attempted to help Moberly but could not get him out of the vehicle.

Lincoln County Sheriff Curt Folger was on scene within minutes, Marcum said, and also attempted to extricate Moberly.

“What happened is the truck was sliding upside down in a ditch and the cab created a shovel and it got dirt in the cab, which trapped him. Then the truck caught on fire…he couldn’t get out,” he said.
