The family of a 16-year-old boy is planning his funeral after a fatal shooting in Kansas City, Kansas, last week.
Carlos Ambriz Garcia attended Wyandotte High School.
"He was just a loving kid, a big teddy bear," said Amapola Garcia, Carlos' mother.
The teen's family said he loved his family and siblings. They said the 10th grader was passionate about video games, food and especially cars.
"He was always so good about cars. 'That car's got a 2.7654321 motor in it.' He was going to go into engineering cars for the future," Garcia said.
Carlos turned 16 last month.
"That was his last birthday," she said.
Now the family is planning for his funeral.
"I need to be strong for these little ones," Garcia said.
His mother said she was the first to arrive at the scene of his homicide. Garcia said she was bringing him food and found him shot last Wednesday in the 2700 block of Stewart Avenue.
"My son is already dying and I'm the one that was calling 911, trying, putting my hand on his stomach to block the holes," Garcia said.
She said she gave him CPR, but he lost too much blood. She said all she can do now is be strong for her other children.
"Get these guns off the streets. I don't understand why there are so many guns in the streets," she said.
To pay for funeral expenses she's selling tamales and other items to raise money for his funeral.
"So that we can get justice for my son Carlos," Garcia said.
Friends set up a GoFundMe account to help.
"He was an amazing kid. He was a jokester. He liked to joke around," Garcia said.
