Daniel Lissing is standing by Lori Loughlin's side.

More than two years since the nationwide college admissions scandal came to light in March 2019, Lori is returning to TV to reprise her role as Abigail Stanton. While it isn’t for Hallmark’s original hit series When Calls the Heart, the actress — who served a brief prison sentence along with her husband, Mossimo Giannulli — is stepping back in to character just down the road from Hope Valley for the season 2 premiere of the spinoff When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas, airing on the GAC Family network on December 18 at 8 p.m. ET.

In Brookfield, Lori will reunite with her former costar Daniel, who played Jack Thornton on When Calls the Heart for five seasons. In 2018, Jack was killed off during the season 5 finale after Daniel decided it was time to move on from the show. Although the actor didn’t see himself coming back from the dead, Lori had a different idea to join her for the two-part premiere of When Hope Calls.

Speaking with Us Weekly about how it all came to be, Daniel revealed that it began when Lori picked up the phone. “Lori called me up, and I’ve gotta give credit to her because this is kind of her idea to have this moment in this episode,” he told the outlet. “The idea of working together in her return to television, and the fact that she’s my good mate, I was like, ‘Let’s do it.’”

So, what will Lori and Daniel’s return look like? Well, Daniel would only say that it’s “powerful” and “everything that it should be.” From what it sounds like, Daniel enjoyed sharing screen time with Lori again, if only for just one episode.

“It was beautiful. When you work with someone for that many years, you build up a bond — not just on set as actors, but as people,” he told the magazine. “We stayed in touch through a pretty trying time, and it was a really nice moment to come back to work together and just connect with my friend in that way, reprising these characters again that both of us weren’t sure that we’d ever be able to play again.”

He concluded: “The fact that we got that opportunity was a really special moment for both of us. We had good connection over that and a lot of gratitude to be on set just one more time.”
